Took a chance on a group of cards that I admittedly don't know much about last night and won the r308 Tatoo Orbit lot of 43 cards in Legendary. Was hoping a few of our members here could chime in with some thoughts about this set. I'll see how the cards look when they get here but I may end up trying to collect it and finish it.
My first impressions are that the cards aren't the most attractive out there but seem to be really really tough to find and don't come up often at all. I couldn't find one that had been sold on BST prior to about 2 years ago. The lot I bought is absolutely full of HOFers too which makes it kind of nice. This also seems like a set where it's really tough to get one nicer than SGC 10 condition. Seems like so many of these have photo defects on the front or are really faded. Any thought on how these are valued? $40-50 for decent commons? $75-100 for decent looking HOFers. Maybe a bit more for a big-name player like Foxx or Mack? Also curious if anyone out there collects the set as well.... Thanks in advance for the input! 119333a_lg.jpg |

Brian,
I don't know much about the set but if those samples are indicative of the lot, they are in much better shape than what is almost always encountered with these. Congrats.

I am working on the set. The are very hard to find, i have not found one on ebay that i need in a very very long time. When they are found they are usually under developed. I doubt I have a single one that would grade above SGC 10. I have posted several times on the BST looking for cards over the past three years and have gotten maybe two or three emails for them. The type II's are impossible to find(only foxx is known). The last one i saw was on ebay well over four years ago.

Brian, Tough set to put together--I've never heard of a complete set (but then again I've never spoken to someone that was actually actively collecting them either!
![]() It is a tough set to give an established price range on as you kinda just have to pick them up as you go, as it may be some time until you see the player you are looking for offered again. I have found E254's are this way as well, I have paid a s little as $10 for decent exaples of commons but I have also paid over $300 for commons that I needed, so you need to be flexible. I have a Bridges, Cronin, and Woody English available (I think you got a Dykes off of me a year or two ago), if you happen to need any of them let me know. -Rhett

Nice pickup on the R308's. I can't add more than those other guys but I know David (above) and I have talked about them before. He and I may have had a transaction or two on them also. Like was mentioned they are super scarce in decent shape and very scarce in any shape. There are actually 2 different type 2's known, a Martin (see link) and Foxx, as mentioned. All of the type 2s are really rare. I have seen maybe 3 of the Foxx's and that one Martin in the whole time I have been collecting. Here is an album that was made to house the type 1's. It has numbered spaces for 108 pictures. In each of the first spaces it has words reading: (XXXX - means a card is pasted over the word(s))
Each Surprise Photograph has a number XXXX small figures near the bottom. Paste your Surprise Photographs in these spaces according to the number on each photograph. Collect the whole set of Movie, Radio XXXX, Theatrical, XXXX, also other Famous People. Makes a most XXXX and valuable collection.. Good luck in the hunt if you go for them. http://www.net54baseball.com/showthr...highlight=r308

Brian, you may already have this information, but if not, it definitely corroborates the fact that this is one very tough set, to me. PSA has graded just 61 examples total, of 48 different players, or approximately 1.3 of each player. Of those 61 total graded, nearly all are in very low grade, with just 4 receiving a grade higher than "2."
If you have any interest in selling the Foxx, please send me a pm. Hope this helps, Larry |
