Doing some more searching in newspaper archives and found this cool ad for Everybody's clothing store.
Can someone post a card? I'm not lucky enough to have one but would love to see one from someone's collection. Look at top right... You can get the 4th series of 20 cards with any purchase in the boy's section of the store. Or with a $5 suit purchase, get all 200 cards! Sign me up for the $5 suit! ![]() ![]() |

Here is one along with 2 back variations, the ad got me thinking maybe they printed these up in groups of 20 and thats when they changed the backs, maybe each front only has one type of back.

Considering how few Everybodys exist, those must have been pretty rotten suits. I have seen four different backs, and no obverse with more than one reverse.

Thanks for posting, Scott.
also, maybe the fact that it was a Texas store rather than an east coast store had some effect on the scarcity. We all know there are no serious card collectors down in Texas ![]() Last edited by Jaybird; 05-31-2011 at 01:41 PM. |

If "Everybody's" is in El Paso today, card collecting folks might be the least of their worries.
Thanks for sharing the ad Jason....that's a really great one!!

I always heard unknown as well which was one of the things I thought was cool about this. Also, I assumed it was a dept store since it says 4th floor but this confirms that it wasn't just a boy's clothing store but a old school department store.
Here's some more detail about the set. From the ads I've found, a 20 card series came out every Saturday, starting April 22nd. I found an ad introducing the Boy's line of clothes on Mar. 3, 1916 and then another announcing out of business sale on November 30th and December 5th. March 3rd - start of Boy's clothing line April 22nd - 1st Set April 29th - 2nd Set May 6th - 3rd May 13th - 4th May 20th - 5th May 27th - 6th June 3rd - 7th June 10th - 8th June 17th - 9th June 24th - 10th January 1st, 1917 - Lease up - Out of Business I attach ads from the April 28th edition (including Eddie Collins) ![]() May19th edition of the paper which shows the 5th set (including Walter Johnson) ![]() June 2nd edition which shows the 7th set (including Dode Paskert) ![]() June 23rd advertising the 10th & Final set (including Honus Wagner) ![]() Last edited by Jaybird; 06-01-2011 at 12:51 AM. |

I love this forum, where everyone works together and chips in to find out the stories behind the cards and baseball in general. Great work guys.

Hyping it up back in 1916
![]() Funny how they say.. "Here he is Boys the King of them all - Honus Wagner, we saved him until the last along with Big Heinie Zimmerman..." bla bla bla wonder how many kids caught on that these cards were given out in number order and the players are checklisted in alphabetical order in the set.... Wagner starts with a "W" so would be in the last 20, along with Zack Wheat, Joe Wood, Buck Weaver, Ed Walsh, etc. Last edited by fkw; 06-01-2011 at 01:13 AM. |
