Default O/T Wagner/Cobb Tobacco

I was perusing the newspapers (thanks Tim) and found this article mentioning "Hans Wagner" Cigars. See last paragraph. Thought it was interesting so I thought I would post.

The Ty Cobb tobacco remark seems to be a joke especially since I've seen another article announcing his tobacco brand in March of 1910 so this would be a bit premature for it to mean Ty Cobb Tobacco.

I think in this case the Wagner and Cobb "cigar brands" are being used more as a metaphor than actually referring to a specific brand named cigar.

I agree with you on the cobb being metaphor. Cobb (meaning pipe) goose-egg (meaning loser-zero).

But Hans Wagner did have a brand of cigars (see link) and to my thinking, the quotes around his name feels more like a brand reference than a metaphor. JMO

97 was a good year for these cards

It's estimated as few as half a dozen copies have survived. Until Lifson came up with five more, that is. Lifson said that a non-collector in Georgia found the cards 10 years ago when going through some of his late grandfather's papers. He didn't realize their value until recently.
