I've received emails where a potential bidder would write "You only bought it for $75.00 (example) why do you want $399.99 (example) for it? Isn't that ridiculous?"

First of all, I won't apologize for knowing certain autographs and being fortunate enough to pick them up on Ebay for a great price (while forgeries being auctioned off at the same time were bidding at a much higher amount).

Two, I'm the one that goes through the time, effort and expense of getting the autograph certed. The majority of items that I purchase at a great price never go up for auction. No one should ever apologize for being knowledgeable and picking up great deals sometimes. We've earned it.

Actually, the seller got an OK deal when he bought it for $2200. That's about what the ball is worth.

Interesting anecdote from the writer Mark Evanier about his friend, the cartoonist Sergio Aragones of Mad Magazine fame:

My best pal, Sergio Aragonés, once was selling some sketches he'd done. A browser was interested in one but blanched at the hundred-buck price tag.

"How long did it take you to draw that?" he asked.

"About a half-hour," Sergio answered.

The man was horrified: "You expect me to pay you a hundred dollars for a half-hour's work?"

Sergio showed uncommon restraint — at least for Sergio. He calmly said, "You're not paying for the half-hour it took me to do the drawing. You're paying for the forty-one years it took me to learn how to do that."

The hearing for sentencing was held on September 22nd in San Diego. Defendants John Slight and Craig Kreider of When It Was A Game, Inc. pled guilty to mail fraud and both were given probation. Kreider and Slight were fined $3,000 each and the corporation of When It Was A Game, Inc. also was fined $6,000.

Long, old, sordid story about switching cards out of PSA slabs. Very well publicized on the CU boards.

Oddly if you search the sellers ID, dj3000th, it comes up as not a registered user anymore. But u can see he was still selling as of 3/25/11, he just pulled the ball and left Ebay. I guess he took his ball and went home.

Actually, I don't think sellers leave ebay. They just open a new account, if they get caught at being unscrupulous or get too many negative feedbacks. There are also others that have back up seperate secondary ebay accounts to shillbid on there own stuff if it is not selling high enough with no reserve. That way they can buy there own item back and resell it. I see this all the time with all kinds of collectibles. Essentially the seller uses a shill to create a "hidden reserve." Sometimes the shill wins.

I've asked why items have been relisted and the seller usually states something along the lines of, "Buyer backed out."



The tell is when the relisted item is listed for a much higher price or Buy it Now than what it "sold" for the first time.
