To put it in perspective, the Spade you sent me was card #5, Frank.
I've not seen it yet, but I think the card that Frank A. is sending is the same Elberfeld that was at auction back in Oct. of 2009 on eBay as part of a six card lot. The creepy part of that auction was that I was mentioned by name as collecting these cards (nothing quite like calling out someone to bid on your auction) but with three HoFers in the lot, and only really wanting the one, I didn't bid high enough to get it, and lost track of where it went. But from Frank's description, and having the scans from that auction, I'll be able to tell if it is the same card. Right now, there are 17 cards on my list that I know exist, I just don't know where they are, and another 11 that I know who the owner is. |

I wouldn't have a collection nearly this large without the help of a lot of board members. Even indirectly. Quite often I get an e-mail telling me they've seen on on eBay, or at a local show or something. Trae put me in touch with Mike, who had 29 in his possession. The guys at Mastro put me in touch with Jim S., who got 51 of them in a near compete t206 set they auctioned, and I now have gotten a total of 40 of those, either directly from Jim or people who won auctions from Jim, then sold them to me. I've kept a list of the origin of each of the cards I've been able to get. Someday, I'll just have to post it, as a thanks to everyone who has helped, even though I'm afraid I'll leave out someone who was instrumental in getting one to me. But I do appreciate all the help I get from everyone on the board in this strange quest of mine. Thanks.

Old Mill: Coles/Augusta, Reagan/New Orleans
Peidmont: Ames/glove, Birmingham, Covaleski, Elberfeld/N.Y. Amer/portriat, Joss/Glove, Lajoie/pitching, Magee/portriat, Mathewson/white cap, Owen/Chicago, Parent/Chicago, Seymore/batting, Warhop, Willis/batting Hindu: Perdue/Nashville–PSA4 (from the Goodwin auction a couple months ago) Of those I know, there are six more Hindu backed cards, and the other five are Piedmonts. |

It's hard to believe you've got essentially 1/3rd of the set with that back stamp. Kudos to Ed & Mr McCormick for assembling some truly great collections. Sorry if this has already been discussed, but did McCormick collect only T206s?

I know because I've been approached by two owners of E96s (a total of six cards) that have asked if I would be interested in those also. Didn't know what I was getting in to with the T206s, so not about to start on another.
Out of the 173, you have to realize there are quite a few duplicates. So far, I've found four Red Ames portraits, three Grahams/St. Louis, four Elberfeld/New York portraits and I have one Lundgren/Chicago and know the owner of another. Plus a lot of others that I just can't think of and am too tired to go through the book and note them all. But I'm just amazed at how many he must have had in the first place to have 200 that we know of still around one hundred and two years later. |

When did you get your first "McCormick" card?
When did you decide to chase after them? And how long ago was it that I sent you the Spade card? It seems like years to me. I really underestimated your tenacity, even getting over 100 is amazing. I doubt this could have been accomplished pre-internet. Congratulations. And keep at it!!! FW |

Frank W., you're card (#5 in the collection) came in Oct.ober of 2007. I started the collection in May of that year.
My first stamped cad actually showed up fifteen years before that, pre-internet, and I was sort of ticked at the time becuase I was trying to get one of each back, and the Hindu I purchasd through a magazine ad didn't mention a stamp of any sort on it. When it arrived, I thought, well, at least it was a Hindu back for the collection, and wasn't too horribly expensive. Then fifteen years later, on eBay, I saw another card with that stamp and thought it would be neat to have two. I posted on her about it and BAM! everyone started letting me know they had one/had seen one/thought they remembered one... It was just a few months after that I decided to sell the almost 200 in my collection and just concentrate on Howe's old cards. The first five were quick, then it slowed after that. Barry, yours is number 12, and made its way here almost a year after I started. It goes in spurts. None for several months, then a lot of six, or a large number on eBay at the same time. Then nothing for months. I've missed a couple recently (including a Magee non-error in poor condition that went for more than $150! go figure?) But I get what I can, and appreciate hearing from everyone if they happen to see one. Thanks. |

173 is mind boggling especially since practically all sellers won't even mention the McCormick stamped back.
Ed you have incredible tenacity, congrats! Hope you find a bunch more. |
