Saw this on ebay today. is it the highest graded Rose rookie card. The edges look really smooth. Is it sheet cut?
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...#ht_5018wt_922 Anyone has picture of this card in PSA 10? Please post the scan if you have one i would like to compare this card agaist PSA 10 card |

Way overgraded... there are two indentations on the left edge side of the back of the card!

If I had it I'd bust the card out and use it as a bookmark in that great, must read book that Daniel E. Ginsburg wrote, The Fix is In.

Someones playing the gambling game. This exact card sold early last year in the Heros of Sport Auction for $23,000+, the consignor immediately sold it again in REA for $17,000. Lets see if Ebay can out match the auction houses on this card. I bet it closes at $25k but then again this is out of my realm.

It is amazing how Pete Rose cards have held their value over the years. I have to admit, it would be neat to own a Pete Rose rookie. I've just found the prices to be too high, even for lower grade examples.

Yea...the original consignor lost his shirt. The person who bought it thru REA then tried to run it through Memory Lane's "Own It" sale - with no takers. I like to gamble as much as the next guy - just not gonna do it with a $15,000-$25,000 card.

That being said, I agree with Johnny's comment.....this is a card that would do better with folks fighting for the plastic (see PSA)...... And last thing, this thread should really be on the post war side so lets be mindful in the future please....regards

My original question in the post was how the condition of this card compare to that of PSA 10, and if there is a picture, pleast post a can. For a 1963 card, this sgc 98 looks too good in centering and edges. Do SGC grade shhet cut card like BGS on many OPC hockey cards

![]() 1963 Topps, as far as I've seen, is not necessarily known to have rough edges, so I don't think the smooth edges on this card are an issue. SGC is not known to grade sheet-cut cards, and their reputation is well documented on this forum. This card, and its previous sales, have been discussed in a few threads before, and you might be able to learn a bit more about this card with some searching of past topics. I believe the lone PSA 10 sold for $80K a few years back, and was known at that time to reside in the Dmitri Young collection. I do not recall a scan of that PSA 10 ever being posted online. It will be interesting to see where this SGC 98 ends this time. The current eBay seller likely is consigning the card for the owner. For the record, and as many probably know, this seller (prewarcardcollector) is absolutely top-notch with scans, descriptions, and customer service. One of the few eBay sellers that still runs actual auctions (sigh). Last edited by CW; 02-02-2011 at 11:59 AM. |

This ebay auction seems legit. It would be interesting to know whats the true market price on this card, at least ebay market price. Do you think there may be more price manipulation by big auction house? I dont understand how can this card drop from $28,000 to $20,000 (including buyer premium) in less a year

Big auction houses are the same as Ebay. It all depends on who is seeing the card at any given time.

In a thinly traded item, one buyer can make a huge difference. The first time it sold, two or more buyers drove it to $28,000. Once one of them became the seller, instead of a bidder, it dropped. Not difficult to understand. Quote:

Since this thread has veered off topic anyhow....
1963 Stargell RC, SGC 88. http://www.huntauctions.com/phone/im...79&lot_num=697 So far, so good, but then (1) submitted in holder to PSA for crossover, rejected (2) cracked out and submittted to PSA, rejected for trimming (3) submitted to SGC hoping to get back into an 88, and: 12 1963 Topps 553 WILLIE STARGELL ROOKIE High# 0 - T7

Can someone measure and see if this Rose SGC 98 is trimmed? I thought about placing a bid at the last moment before the auction end, hope to win this card as long as this card is not sheet-cut, or altered in anyway.
Based on my nonprofessional view, this card looks too good to be true for a 1963 card. |

Your questions seem a bit elementary (I am being polite) for someone about to spend 20k on a card. Maybe you need to kick back a little and learn a bit more before you continually make these statements or ask these questions? (actually, after more experience you won't make these statements)
