Sorry for the long intro but, I recently purchased a vintage baseball glove at a local thrift shop. I bought the glove for 2 reasons. Reason one was it was a Stan Musial Model glove and even though it was not in the best of shape it had the box. The graphics are awesome. The other reason I bought the glove was because the store had a card neatly tucked between the finger laces. It was a Mickey Mantle card and although I did not recognize when it was from I figured it was still a cool item. I did some research and I believe it is a 1959 Mickey Mantle Yoo hoo Card. I took pictures although I don;t think they came out that great and was wondering if anyone could tell the authenticity. I believe it is authentic due to the ages of the other items that came from this collection and I believe it could be a very scarce card. Just wanted some thoughts from the experts.
Pic is on my website www.mmmm13.com/mantle |

Thanks Frank. Hows the weather on the island? Any info would be great. I did find something about it on the second page of this pdf.
http://www.sportscollectorsdigest.co.../mantlept2.pdf The person who the collection came from owned a nation wide ice cream company or something of the sort that distributed ice cream at baseball stadiums. I am hoping to get a look at more of the collection but I have to wait for the thirft store to go through it and do the proper research. This is not a salvation army and they usually try to get top dollar at first and only after a while will they consider lowering their price. Last edited by magic1313; 07-14-2010 at 11:20 PM. |

Hi again, here is the info in the 2009 SCD
NRMT $1600, EX $800, VG $480 size 2-5/8" by 3-5/8", They dont know in what manner the Mantle was distributed. I have had a few YooHoo cards but not the Mantle. The Mantle card is of a slightly different design than the other 5 cards. The other 5 cards came with a tab at bottom, Mantle did not. I read the info you found it looks like not much is really known about the card, not even the exact year. The weather is nice right now, summer is nicest, but we get 180+" of rain a yr......... cool thing about this island is we can always drive to the rain or sun if we want, other side of island in Kohala gets less than 10" a yr..

The SCD 2010 Big Book lists it with this notation:
In a different format than the other contemporary Yoo Hoo Yankees [ That set is listed separately with 5 players with white or blue tabs], the manner of the original distribution of this card is unclear. The 2-5/8 x 3 5/8 black and white card has a portrait and endorsement of the product on front. Back is blank It lists it for 1600/800/400 |

Frank,
that is pretty cool. Heat up in the sun and then go cool off in the rain. Thanks for the info. I was able to locate one auction and I think the list price is rather low. An SGC 20 sold for 3500 at hunt auctions in 2008. Not sure if the market has declined since then. I also found a SGC 70 that sold at Mastro for 9600 in early 2009 but I take their auctions with a grain of salt. http://huntauctions.com/LIVE/imagevi...1106&lot_qual= |
