Many of the cards cut from candy boxes are scarce to say the least yet don't get a lot of attention from main stream collector's. I would love to hear from board members their feelings on these cards and why the do or don't care for them.
Here are a couple of scans of mine and would love to see others. ![]() ![]() |

I like 'em because I think they are neat and they are obscure...
![]() edited to add...I have no idea why this is still in this holder? Next time I see him he won't be....

Many do care for them alot!!
Ever see the prices of complete or partial boxes when they are discovered? Box cards are just too scarce overall for the avarage set collector, and a few of the "sets" dont even have complete checklists known, with new discoveries from time to time. They are loved by most "type card" collectors. I cant think of a candy box card that is common... Geo. Davis Co. (aka "Orange Border") J=K Base Ball Bats All Star Base-Ball 1910 E-Unc. "Diamond background" (red or blue tint) E271 Darby Chocolates W555 (aka Base-Ball Snap Shots) Schapira Bros Babe Ruth Joe DiMaggio Candy Box Donut Co. of American Thrilling Moments etc. But Cereal Box cards are usually very common (except those smaller "single size" version Wheaties cards) Last edited by fkw; 11-22-2010 at 09:34 PM. |

I like cards cut from candy boxes, but I prefer cards with player info and/or product advertisements on them. I don't know why my scanner added all the vertical lines in the red background of the Johnson card - I must be doing something wrong!

I'm a fan of these rare gems. keep posting them, as I've never seen the Johnson or Chance cards. I like the orange borders. Are those called Brooklyn Toy and Novelty or is that another series?

Love that Chance card above. I like these a lot. Similar to strip cards, but they have a different look to them. I have 18 strip cards of Yankees but none of these, guess i dont come across them too often on Ebay.

Hi Bill - If I interpret your question correctly, you are asking if the Johnson card is a 1925 W504 Universal Toy & Novelty card. It is not - rather, it is a 1911 Baseball Bats card - some of the Baseball Bats cards have orange borders, and these are sometimes mistaken for 1910 Orange Borders cards.
Wishing you the very best in you efforts to overcome your illness. Val |
