Collection Purchased...

About a month ago I purchased a collection of cards from a family friend. I had been planning on buying the for awhile, just waiting for the guy to finally decide to sell them. I was hoping he would have waited a couple more years, but I bit the bullet and bought them. I posted a question on this site shortly after buying them. I have finally been able to get through them and record what I have. A couple of the years are a little rough, a few probably in the good range and a few in the very good+ range, with some cards being nrmt.

I wanted to posted the number of cards in each year and some of my plans for them.

I am looking at trying to complete a few of these sets that I have a pretty good start on.

1954 Bowman, 1954 Topps, 1955 Topps. After I complete those I don't know which set I will try to compete. (Probably will wait until these cards are paid off before another one after these three, as I have most of the key cards in these sets so I mostly need commons)

I have a few doubles that I am going to take to a show next week and maybe try to trade them for some of the cards I need. Other than those I am not looking to sell or trade any of the other cards.

Any tips on trying to complete sets or on any of these individual sets? Thanks.

unless you have an unlimited budget, I would very carefully select "must have" COMPLETE sets. Just because you have a large lot of a set doesn't mean you have to finish it (I have made this mistake). Buying Short-Prints/High's and all the commons even can get very tedious and expensive so I would pick one or two sets you REALLY like and try to get them done first...If I had to do it all over again I would pick one or two sets from each decade and build a very nice grade set of each and then just pick up a few key players/rc's from the other sets and call it a day...JMO

Also, I'm sure you know this but make sure you check this collection for high numbers as some of them are easy $100 bills (ex: 52 high's 311 and above..)

Thanks for the info...I will keep this in mind. The first three sets I am going to work are mostly just commons that I need. (other than the 54 Bowman, in which I need the Ted Williams, but sounds like most conisder it complete without that one.) Most of the other sets will be a few years down the road other than a few commons here and there.
