Home Run Cigarettes - Are they really Vintage?
I've always had my doubts about Home Run cigarettes being vintage to the deadball era, yet you often see packs or ad pieces sold as being vintage to pre 1920. Well, I never really said anything until I noticed that Jon Canfield posted his full carton on the June B/S/T...the carton has a zip code which dates the cigarettes to at least post 1960. Anyone ever seen any advertisements or proof that these cigarettes existed pre 1960s? Anything?

Home Run cigarettes are rumored to have begun around the 1890s or early 1900s and the brand was made into the 1960s (at least, and possibly to the 1980s). I've never seen anything (i.e., a pack or flattened wrapper) that dated the brand to the 1890s or early 1900s other than the purported advertisement pieces as well as a newspaper article that Carlton has. However, Jim Shaw, a very experienced cigarette collector, has a pack dating to 1918 which is pictured on his website here: http://users.ap.net/~burntofferings/...gett_duke.html. In addition, I have a wrapper dated to 1925, which I can scan and post when I return home after the holiday weekend. With respect to the carton I have, you are correct that those packs date to the 1960s era.

guys, this is a real pack. the surgeon generals warning was on the re- makes from the 70s. that is a sure sign of the copys. jon does yours have the warning on the side of the packs.

That wrapper is very similar in style to mine from the 1920s. The very "original" packs (pre 1920s) were black and white printing, not green and white, however. The carton I have from the 1960s does not have the SG warning, I believe.
