How would you place a value on a subset or a lot of prewar cards?
I just began a subscription to VCP, where you can look up cards individually, but to my knowlegde you can't look up previously closed sales of card lots. any suggestions? do you just sit and flip through old auction catalogs to find comparisons? Here's an example: If I wanted to sell my T206 Cubs team set (which I don't, and this doesn't belong on the BST ![]() Thanks in advance for your thoughts...

but if there is an interested buyer, wouldn't there be some premium afforded by someone who wouldn't want to take the time or added expense (shipping) of assembling the subset or collection piece by piece?
perhaps not. You would need to know what kind of subsets have the demand that would result in a premium... Certainly, yes, the simple sum of the parts priced by VCP would be one answer...but would most folks demand a discount on the total package or accept a sum of the parts valuation?

I do not think a sub-group like that would bring any premium, im not sure any sub group would vs selling them seperate.
Since you are new to VCP, one nice feature you can do is create a "My Collection" and then a group for this cubs subset, add all the cards you have in the set. With that you should be able to pull up the present value combined for the group. I have done this for all my exhibit sets so its nice to see what my cost is in each set plus the current value based on last sale and average sale. I find it a very usefull tool. |
