Default 2010-2011 Boxing Card Guide Is Available

I am pleased to offer the revised and expanded sixth edition of my book “America’s Great Boxing Cards”, a price guide, encyclopedia and checklist of American boxing cards. You may purchase the book direct from the publisher at Lulu.com:

Support independent publishing: Buy this book on Lulu.

http://www.lulu.com/content/paperbac...0-2011/8191994

The latest edition picks up where the other editions stopped. It contains all of the data that made the prior editions so useful, plus a ton of new research. I have added many sets of vintage boxing cards to the listings, further refined the existing listings and checklists, expanded the Canadian and Latin American issues sections (including some newly-discovered sets), added new materials to the exhibit card sections, and added a section on Panini boxing cards to begin coverage of these interesting cards from the golden era of heavyweights.

Active collectors will find this book is a necessity due to the price updates. You will find vastly expanded pricing reflecting actual results of Ebay sales, auctions and private sales, literally hundreds of new prices. I still refuse to make up prices based on extrapolations from other cards, like so many price guides out there. If the card did not transact in the grade listed, I do not put a price in the book for it.

This year's cover honors Joe Louis:

Adam,

I went to order this and then saw the price. If I recall and I could be wrong the last edition was around $20. Are there more color plates? The length is only about 10 pages more. Just want to know what I can expect in this additon and if it will relate specifically to the sets I collect which are those that contain Abe Attell.

Thanks

James G

Adam,

I stand corrected, I checked Lulu and I paid $34.99. I always felt that the lack of any color photos was a shame, but I understand that adds a lot to the cost.

Just trying to grasp what has changed. I know you have never put in a price guide has that been added for more common sets? You mention pricing updates and added data.

Thanks

James G

Color is unbelievably expensive, so I have always opted to be like the Standard Catalog and every other guide and not use it. Also, with the web being what it is, anyone who wants color imagery can look at it on my site, which I intend to expand dramatically this year in terms of total images available.

The changes to the book: New sets added. Newly discovered cards from existing sets added. Pricing updated.

I still do not create a price matrix for every card from every set in every condition. It is not intellectually honest to make up a near mint price for a card that has never been found in that condition or to price cards that have not transacted in years. I do not think I will ever go beyond that basic premise. On the flip side of the coin, I do not see the need to pad a book with pages of pricing on common cards that can be had every day of the week on Ebay for a few cents or a few bucks each. All that does is make it harder to hold the guide whilst sitting on the toilet, a key issue for many of my readers
