We will consider purchase or trade offers for this exceptionally rare
item. Only 6 Kalamazoo Bat Team Cabinets are known. Our example is the only known Black Mount example with the Philadelphia team imprinted. Great photo of Harry Wright. Scans will be sent to interested collectors/ Please write in confidence to: Bruce Dorskind bdorskind@dorskindgroup.com |

We have received over 20 inquiries. We have sent scans to each.
We are open to offers and have not set a price. As for the comments from other Board Members, they were inappropriate and not necessary. The reason we did not respond on Sunday night and Monday was that they we were out of town working on a major consulting assignment for a US government agency. This hobby is our hobby not our profession. Whilst we have built class baseball collection, our consulting business is our priority. Finally, we do not appreciate cynical comments about our business or the fact that we have a home office. Thank you for your consideration in this matter Bruce Dorskind America's Toughest Want List |

I've decided to turn over a new leaf. I've given Bruce a hard time in the past, and I shouldn't.
I am going to start a new business venture. I will offer customer friendly translation services for Bruce, pro bono. Here's the first one: Barry, Ben, and everyone else, Sorry I didn't get back to you guys as quickly as I should have. Right after I posted, I got caught up in a couple of things from work that tied me up for longer than expected. I had many responses to my post and couldn't respond to any in a timely manner. I think I've caught up now and have scans and/or responses out to everyone who emailed. If I've missed you, I apologize. Please drop me a note and let me know. Bruce D. (Now, if only I can figure out an acceptable revenue stream from this new business, I am "In Like Flint.") |

You may think that you are amusing, but we suggest you stick to your day
job (if you have one) As we learned during our tenure at Wharton "free advice is worth what one pays for it." We would appreciate it if those who wish to comment stick to baseball cards. In his first season with the Padres in 1996, Rickey Henderson was once looking for a seat on the team bus and teammate Steve Finley said, "You have tenure, sit wherever you want." Rickey allegedly replied, "Ten years? Rickey's been playing at least 16, 17 years." Obviously, Bruce spent a long time getting an undergraduate degree at one of the finest MBA schools in the country. |

All kidding aside, I am not trying to turn Bruce's legitimate BST post into one of those old fashioned train wrecks.
He made a fair post trying to sell a valuable and rare card. This initial post was without the animosity that, sometimes, pops up in his listings. He then got tied up on business and didn't respond to emails. It happens. It's happened to all of us. I did not respond, and would not have, until a couple of posters questioned his lack of response and he got nasty. Up until that point, there had been no "cynical comments" about his business nor his home office. He was offended by comments that no one had made. I did, at that point, try to make light of it. After all, Barry has been one of Bruce's "explainers" for years. (I wanted to say "apologists", but that didn't sound right.) Barry has stood by Bruce when many of us wouldn't. I have always liked that about Barry. That said, I understand why Bruce took my attempt at humor as an attack. Bruce, good luck selling a nice card. Last edited by Jim VB; 11-08-2009 at 05:29 PM. |

Forgot to check this thread today and see it has been steamrolling along...which is a good metaphor since we are on our way to yet another train wreck.
Jim- thanks for the support but Bruce emailed me this morning. Only thing odd here is I usually coordinate my posts on BST to when I know I will be home and able to be at my computer. To list a very significant card for sale right before one is heading out of town on a business trip just seems like a poor strategy. And for the record I visited Bruce recently and saw the card. It is a beauty and he does really have it, for those who may undoubtedly be skeptical. I don't think I will be the new owner, however. |

it concerns me when someone claims educational accolades yet cannot substantiate them.
a tenured professor has a lifetime appointment until retirement, except for dismissal with "due cause". the reason for the existence of such a privileged position is the principle of academic freedom, which holds that it is beneficial for state, society and academy in the long run if learned persons are free to examine, hold, and advance controversial views without fear of losing their jobs. tenure allows professors to engage in current political or other controversies. "matriculation", however, can refer to mere enrollment or registration as a student at a university or college by a student intending to earn a degree, an event which involves only paperwork and is often handled by mail or online. a university might make a distinction between "matriculated students," who are actually accumulating credits toward a degree, and a relative few "non-matriculated students" who may be "auditing" courses or taking classes without receiving credits. so then bruce, care to elaborate? Well I care not to take sides, I do want to point out that while Bob's description of tenure above is probably the most commonly used meaning for the term "tenure," tenure can also mean simply a position. In this case, it seems Bruce was referring to his position as student. So, I'm not entirely sure what Bruce posted is inaccurate.

With all due respect I feel the more common terminology for tenure at a college refers to faculty. Rarely, if ever, have I heard that term associated with being a student. I am sure it could be used that way but i don't think that is not normal. Kind of like he's looking for the penultimate cards
![]() I suggest using vocabulary that one is comfortable with when writing, or consulting a dictionary or thesaurus. I always give myself a fairly low B for writing skills but I get immunity for being the moderator.

Bob Craik's above description of what a tenured faculty member (professor) is, is accurate. I happen to be one at Oregon State University.
Bruce used the term in a more colloquial than technical sense. For example, you can say: "During Leon's tenure as moderator of Net54, he had to deal with a lot of hassles." This is the way I read Bruce's use of the term, and it is a correct usage as well. JimB Last edited by E93; 10-18-2009 at 10:20 PM. |

In my MS Word dictionary, definition #1 is:
1. "The occupation of an official position, or the length of time that a position is occupied." Definition #3 pertains to the guaranteed employment of a professor to ensure freedom of speech. JimB |

I sure wish I could have freedom of speech at work - could you imagine telling all of the VPs to go take a flying F (politely and diplomatically, of course) and not worry about being canned. What a concept. I missed my calling - I should have become a Prof somewhere.

Amazing how quickly one of Bruce's posts gets thrown off course. Would love to see a scan of the card for sale, Bruce. I've never seen any of those items before. Good to know what tenure is. and what it perhaps is not. pass the salt!

Durning my tenure on this forum, I have often wondered why those with a card for sale or trade don't simply include the image of the card in the BST post. If the card has already been scanned to email to those who ask for it, why not just include it in the BST post, rather than respond to x number of email requests?
