have seen plenty of these over the years. Seems to happen on 206s more than other issues. Also seems that I have seen more on the Tolstoi reverse than other advertisements.
lets see them if you have them-206 or what ever you have Wiltse.jpgWiltseb.jpg

Jim,
I remember long ago when i got my first tolstoi and was so excited thinking that i was seeing a major anomaly. Then I saw it again and again as i bought the tolstoi's and realized that it's a fairly common occurrence. It's great fun to see them still. Great idea for a thread. best, barry |

Jim - You asked, so you shall receive. I own both of these examples. If you look close at the Abbaticchio, you can see "factory" backwards under Pittsburg. The Elberfeld is really unusual. The transfer is split, meaning it has two halves. Notice the "C" and "m" in the border near his glove. Then there is another partial transfer beginning on the left border. Currently I am still researching the Sweet Caporal wet sheet transfer subject and ironically the 11 players in that project also appear on cards with Tolstoi backs. Coincidence? Thats what I'm trying to figure out.

Yes, it is Cy Young as the ghost print.....SGC reholdered it for me at the last national and put the back as the front of the holder...it's really neat.

I don't know Leon, to me that looks like our 27th president. William Howard Taft (albeit during his salad days....). He was president from 1909-1913, which certainly fits the time-line. Looks like you got snookered! Oh well, I'll take it off your hands if you are going to discard it. Plus, if I remember correctly, this card nearly started a riot on the Net54 board when it first surfaced. The argument was nearly on the same level as the infamous “you got peanut butter on my chocolate" and "you got chocolate in my peanut butter" debate...

Dan, there is a 1928 Exhibit Virgil Barnes wet sheet card (back ghost) on my web site. I also have and will have to post one of these days a 1928 boxing card with a spectacular back ghost.

So many things make that printer's scrap insane. In addition to the Cy Young and a zillion other backs -- it actually has the ridiculously rare brown old mill !
