![]() The Rarest Strip card set..... W519-2-2 ![]() ![]() I want to complete my checklist for this extremely rare 10 card set. If not I would love to see some examples you guys have. Anyone have any from this set to show????? #11 Gleason #12 Murphy (Unknown player named Joe Murphy) #13 Frisch #14 Collins #15 UNKNOWN, might be Cravath #16 Morton #17 Marquard #18 UNKNOWN, might be Cravath #19 Kreuger #20 Ruth I have seen a Cravath that Im fairly sure is from this set, it was trimmed close and the number was missing but the first name was spelled "GOBBY" with an "O" instead of the "A" used by the related sets (both are wrong it should be Gavvy). It will be either card #15 or #18.
PS. The checklist in the SCD is all screwed up. I dont have it in front of me, but they list 3 #'s with 2 different players, and Id put $$ that the cards listed as the "B" version cards are really just misidentified W521's. The obvious difference between the 2 sets is the ink color of the card number. W519-2-2's are printed in a medium blue ink, all the other sets have black ink numbers. ![]() ![]() Last edited by fkw; 12-07-2009 at 10:19 PM. |

I have a Marquard that is missing a chunck. As rare as they are, I just haven't run into anyone that really cares a great deal about them. From what I can tell the people that buy strips are doing it
A) Because the player doesn't appear in other sets. B) Collect all cards of a player C) The strip is the cheapest of a players cards. I find few people collecting full sets or who care about the variations. I bought a group of several hundred strips and there was only the on -2 in the lot. There was almost a complete set of the W519. I like strips and wish I could find some nice W514 to add to my collection. James G

I am assuming this Frisch is type 1 on the assumption that it is a reverse negative of the previous Frisch posted. I am not sure what the other card is...need some help identifying.

I am pretty sure it is from the W9316, the mother of all ugly strip sets. Check out George's turkey neck!

How about the 1931 W502's ? Perhaps actually not strip cards, but listed that way by PSA anyway. There are currently only 4 examples ever graded by PSA.
Gotta plug these since I have the only PSA 7 ever - the Hornsby. ![]() |

How about this 1919 strip card of Ruth, Johnson, Sisler, and Covelskie. I have been collecting since 1986 and know of only one other person that has this card. I got mine authenticated by SGC in August. Both PSA and SGC had never seen this card before and it took 3 weeks for SGC to receive enough information to be able to grade the card. Pretty rare?

Frank-
I was the original poster on the Cravath "error" strip card. Unfortunately, I posted the picture using the old Net54 temp file, so the card cannot be seen in the thread. Here is the link to the thread: http://www.net54baseball.com/showthr...=cravath+strip I no longer own the card and cannot find the scan. I am fairly certain I sold the card to Pat Vermette (most likely not spelled correctly) a collector/dealer on Cape Cod. It has been a while, but if I run into him again, I will see if he still has it and can provide a scan. I wish I could be of greater assistance. Yours in collecting, Alan Elefson aelefson@hotmail.com |
