Hey, guys. I've got a question for you. I picked up my 1913 Pittsburgh Pirates photo at the National and it has noted in the letter that 2 HOFers are in the picture (namely Wags and Carey). I began to wonder if Clarke is in the picture since he played for the Pirates in 1913 after taking 1912 off from playing and since he is pictured on the 1913 T200 Fatima card.
Of interest to note is the fact that Clarke is not included in the 1913 Voskamp Coffee set. Follow-up question for that is, why? (I have verified the checklist and compared it with both the 1912 and 1913 rosters. I am convinced that the Voskamps are correctly identified as 1913). Back to Clarke and the reason for this thread... In looking at the photo that is identified by Max Carey as having been taken in 1913, I am wondering if the guy in the first picture is Fred Clarke and is simply not identified as being a 3rd HOFer in the photo. I have also included other photos of Clarke from Fatima, Fan Craze, and another photo identified as being him. So, the question ... is this Fred Clarke? Thanks for your help. Brian,
The unique nose and ears seem to match, but I'm not quite 100% sure. Tony |

The proportions look a little off, but it's closel. He was surely around the club a lot in 13, since he was managing it.

Sorry to say, but the player is not Clarke.

From what I can make out from the face you posted, it appears that the length of his nose from bridge to tip is too short (compare to the Fatima T200 image of Clarke which has the face in virtually the same angle).
Also the ears seem similar but maybe not quite right. If you would post your photo in higher res - I could be more sure. |

Wow. Seeing those two bottom pics next to each other pretty much clears it up. Thanks for your work on that, Mark!
