Recently I heard that Honus Wagner had a brother who played ball, as well as Ty Cobb's brother Paul. Also, I ran across a news article in the Columbia library about Pie Traynor's brother playing for the Columbia Comers of the Sally league. Does anyone have pictures or cards of these and other "not so famous brothers"?
Thanks, John |

One of these guys is Paul Cobb - He played several years for the Lincoln Western League team.
![]() ![]() I don't have a picture of him, but this postcard was mailed to Louis Wagner (Honus' brother) asking him to come play for the Nebraska Indians. ![]() ![]()

Well apologies for ths not being pre-war...
But HOFer Robin Yount had an older brother, Larry, who appeared in one game for Houston, September 15, 1971. Larry had been called up from AAA Oaklahoma City on Sept 2nd. He'd sat on the bench... then was called on to pitch in that one game, the Astros were trailing the Braves 4-1 in the top of the 9th. Yount goes out to warm up on the mound, feels a twing in his elbow, considers ignoring it so he can pitch in his first game, but he doesn't and calls the coach, and he leaves the game. Since he was 'announced', he was 'in' the game, even though he didn't face a batter. He didn't get another chance for the rest of 1971. He was with Houston's minors for 1972 and 1973. After spring training of 1974 he was traded to the Brewers, where he was briefly in camp with his little brother, Robin, before returning to the minors. He never got back to the big leagues. He's in the record books and stat sites with one game and a bunch of zeros. No card of Larry, but I did write him in May of 2001 and got this signed 3x5. ![]() Last edited by FrankWakefield; 07-19-2009 at 09:12 AM. |

I went to SABR and could not locate a Traynor who fits as Pie's brother. Looks like I'm headed back to the library.

A few other interesting ones...
Zack Wheat had a brother named McKinley (Mack) Wheat (I know Zack & Mack, how creative). He was pictured on a Zeenut card from 1922. George Kelly had a brother named Reynolds (Ren) Kelly that played in one game for the Philadelphia A's. He was pictured on two Zeenut cards from 1922 and 1923. -Rhett

Thought you may enjoy the photo, at least.
Circa 1905 and nice, pleated uniforms, replete with a tie?? Joe (left) and Jesse Morgan "Rube" Eldridge formed a pitcher/catcher combo for the semi-pro Glenola (NC) community team. Joe didn't make it as a ball player, but Rube went on to pitch 25 years in the minors. He appears on a T209-2 and a T210....in a Greensboro uniform. |
