I'm looking for a clean 1938 Goudey #250 Joe D in a 6 or 7. Please respond to johnkalafarski@hotmail.com.

Doesn't anyone out there need funds for their auction bill?

They're out there, John.

It took me two years to upgrade my 3 to a 5. There was just a 5 as part of a recent lot in the Robert Edward Auction. I finally got mine about a month ago, after looking in every conceivable place.

It's a very desirable card, though - I've been trying to upgrade my #274 DiMaggio with no luck, either. Lots of people who own this card hold it near and dear.

Good luck!

-Al

It may not be what you are looking for and it may not be where you want to get it from, a dealer that is, but 707 has a PSA 8 for $16,500, I don't know if that's a good or a bad price...

Thanks for your responses. The 707 price is his standard over-the-top price. On top of his high prices, his scans are dull, dull, dull. There have been eights in auctions which run between $12,000-$13,000, but the card is usually the #274. There was a PSA 7 a few years ago on ebay but it was not that clean. It went for just over $5,000 as I remember. I have seen good ones as part of lots on Masto and that may be the way to go. There was a nice SGC 7.5 that BMW had but I noticed it too late and it was gone. Of course, the toning makes this issue difficult. Plus Joe's legacy.

Al, did you win the 5 in the Robt. Ed auction? That's a nice 5!

Joe:

No - I bid that lot up, up, up, up, and up again, but ultimately the whole lot went for more than I was willing to pay. Although the cards in that lot were beautiful, there were only two in the lot that were upgrades for me - the DiMag, and the Greenberg.

Seeing as I already have about 30 dupes from the set, I didn't want to spend that much for 18 more!

I lucked out - I was all disappointed about losing out on that lot, and then the DAY after the REA auction closed, I found another 5 from another source, after searching for an upgrade for about a year.

Al,
It's warming to hear you finally snagged the Joe D. upgrade. I know how much effort and purpose you've invested in the set. I'd love to see the 5.
Regards,
RayB

Hi Dean!

I was just about to log in and tell John that I purchased the card from a board member, and thus didn't feel comfortable disclosing the price.

I believe it was a fair deal on both ends, though.

And in case anyone has the occasion to pick up a card or two from Dean, I heartily recommend it. Outstanding service, and a generally good guy.
