Default Bob Gibson - Globetrotters picture?

I have done internet searches without much luck. Anybody have or ever seen a picture of Bob Gibson with the Globetrotters? I've been looking for a picture, or a program, or anything with him in a Globetrotters uniform, to put with the Topps artwork I picked up a year or two ago. I see pictures of him with Creighton, and an image of his Globetrotters ID card, but not much else. I am guessing maybe he played with one of the secondary teams, or maybe his stint was too short?

He played with the big boys. His roommate was Meadowlark Lemon. It is pretty amazing that there are no images of Gibson in uniform though.

I thought I might be able to find one in the picture section of his autobiography but there wasn't any unfortunately.....

If you do run across one, please share it!

Good Luck

Bill

You might try the Association of Professional Basketball research group. They have historians & researchers on there that collect images of basketball players in any professional or semi-pro teams, leagues, etc,...

Thanks, gang! I may give that association a shot! From what I have read, Gibson signed with the Globetrotters for the 4 months between the end of his first minor league season in 57 and the start of the 58 season, so maybe I can find a program from those 4 months that lists a roster. I am not sure that they always created a new up to date roster for every game - they may have just had a single program that they printed and sold at the games that didn't contain specific lineups. I have a program somewhere from 58 or 59 (featuring Wilt) and I will check to see if it has game specific lineups.

Oddly enough, I just saw this in my Facebook feed. In the comments, someone asks if that is Bob Gibson sitting on the bench.

Time frame doesn’t work, Marques Haynes had a a falling out with the owner of the Globetrotters in 1953, Abe Saperstein, and didn’t return to the Globetrotters until 1972 after Saperstein died in 1966.

You might also look at all pro basketball programs from those 4 months. It was typical for teams to offer a doubleheader with the first game the Globetrotters and the second a regular NBA game. I have programs with Wilt Chamberlain playing for the Globetrotters and the second game a Philadelphia Warriors game. They would print that nights roster for all 4 teams so better chance you would see Gibson's name listed. Wilt is from 1958 but this one from 1955 also has full lineups

Those poor Washington Generals! According to Wiki, they were 3-16,000 against the Globetrotters. When they won a game by mistake in 1971, children cried and someone yelled, "You killed Santa Claus!"

Marty,

I know I’ve never seen a pic of Gibson with the Globetrotters, but I think the original artwork would look great, in my view, with the Topps card with the cartoon framed with it.
