Default What cards have surprised you?

I just picked up my first ever Hage's Dairy card. (I know, it's slightly post-war, but there's a point). When it arrived, I was very pleasantly surprised. I always assumed these cards were about the size of a 48 Bowman. But actually, they are much more like the size of a 39 Playball. And the photos are crystal clear (even if my scan isn't), much nicer than a 39 or 40 Playball photo.

What cards have surprised the rest of you?

Default surprise

not a card but a T206 pack---
I was pleasantly surprised when i received my American Beauty pack
and it was the same size as my Piedmont, Sweet Cap, and Old Mill.
The argument that the AB cards were slimmer than the rest of the 206s
due to their coming from a smaller pack flew away on the wings of Ritchey's dove. From then on, Jon Canfield has mentored me.
Best,

barry

I was surprised by these 3 cards, won in an action in the 1980's thru SCD for $265.00.

About 13 years ago I won a lot of 26 E126 cards from Sports Collector's Digest auction by Coach's Corner. I had never seen the cards before and I was surprised they were bigger than other caramel cards.

So Coach's Corner used to sell legitimate cards? That's the biggest surprise of all.

I have been surprised a few times when buying an item from a seller in Ohio on ebay which turned out to be real upon receipt.

When you get them in person, some issues are higher quality than you expected and some are lesser. Considering the many cheapo Post WWII team issues and such, a pleasant surprise that comes to mind is 1967 Dexter Press. Nice, good looking premium.

Default Size surprise

The 1926 Sports Co. of America cards surprised me the first time I saw them. I alwas assumed they were E120/E121 sized cards, maybe just a little wider. But instead they are relatively tiny things, about the size of a Tattoo Orbit but narrower. Still very cool.

Default me too

Surprises on a few fronts here. There are many series that are close to paper thin. You would never know it until you handle one. T213-1, T216 Virginia Extra, T216 ("never go out" back), E221 etc... all come to mind. The latest surprise was the little Peggy Popcorn card. I thought it would be the size of a T206 but it's more like the size of a T227.

Default size surprise

I don't know why, but when I received these '22 Exhibits in the mail, the size surprised me. I knew the dimensions of the cards, but for some reason, I was picturing them either smaller or bigger.
