Default Piedmont 350-460 fact 42s

I am wondering why these are rarer backs. Also I want to confirm that it is the Piedmont 350-460 series with the fact 42 that is the one thats rare.

Thanks

Default Piedmont 42

T206 cards with Piedmont 350-460 Subjects, Factory 42, N.C. (Piedmont 42 or Piedmont 460/42, for short) are scarce, although I would not call them rare. This back can be found only on subjects in the 350/460 regular print subject group, the six 350/460 super prints, and a few select subjects in the 460-only subject group. It is roughly as difficult as the Broad Leaf 350 back and commands a premium of about 4-6X relative to common backs. Why this back is scarce is uncertain, although its existence is attributable to the gradual shift by American Tobacco of many of the T206 brands toward Factory 42 in the second half of 1910.

I was watching one on Ebay last week. It was a PSA 4 Danny Murphy (batting). Final price-$311

Just thought I would toss that out there for anyone wondering about the price premium Scot was referring to.

Default pied

without trying to nuance the definition of 'scarce'/'rare', i would simply add
that out of 550 or so T206s, i have only 1 fact. 42 pied. .
it's a 'toughie'. That's my technicus terminus.

best,
barry
