I think I have a photo form that year, although it might be 1897, but I'll have to wait until I get home from work to check. |

Richard: Philip Von Borries in his book Louisville Diamonds has a picture of the 1899 Louisville team ( page 94). It is reproduced from a copy in the University of Louisville Archives. I am sure they could provide you with an excellent copy. Interesting team with Honus, Dummy Hoy,Fred Clarke and Rube Waddell. |

It is the sequel to that book. The full title is Louisville Diamonds The Louisville Major-League Reader 1876-1899 by Philip Von Borries published in 1996. If you want to send me an email I will try and scan a copy of that page for you. ston4100@bellsouth.net |

Jerry, the stars from the team went to Pittsburg. That would have included Clarke, Wagner, Phillippe, and Waddell. I also believe Tommy Leach went to Pittsburg. |

Here's a copy of the photo I have, although I was wrong on the date. It actually is the Louisville team from 1898. Hope this helps. Wagner is seated bottom row, third from the left. I've never seen him look so young. |

As a sidebar, I recently picked up a 1900 Pirate Reunion ball signed in 1925. Signers include Tommy Leach, Deacon Phillipe, Jimmie Burke, Kitty Bransfield, Claude Ritchey, Jack Chesbro, C H ("Ginger") Beaumont, C L ("Chief") Zimmer, Fred Clarke, Jesse Tannehill, Honus, and my favorite, Barney Dreyfus, who owned the Louisville Colonels in 1899, and after having been told the franchise was about to be eliminated, bought controlling interest in the Pirates and "traded' Honus, Deacon Phillipe, Fred Clarke, Chief Zimmer, Tommmy Leach and Rube Waddell to the Bucs for Chesbro, Art Madison, Paddy Fox, John O'Brien and $25,000 in December of '99. The following spring, Chesbro was "assigned" back to the Pirates, where he remained until jumping to the Highlanders in 1903. Tannehill jumped to New York at the same time. |
