The Chalmers award was won by Evers and Collins in 1914. |

this would be the first time in nearly 100 years. as much as i wish it were so, it is not 1964 anymore. but i have to say, i highly doubt either player will win the award. kinsler's team has no hcance of making the play offs which questions his value to the team and utley has cooled off a ton lately. he had 19 homers at the end of may and has only hit 11 since. |

I agree w/you, Brock, that one of those guys might win it. I was just giving my opinion on who I would vote for. I also agree that Hamilton is no hero. It's impressive and admirable how he has come back from his (self-inflicted) woes but I'm more impressed w/the guys who never did drugs in the first place. |

I'll go with K-Rod. He'll have 60+ saves on the team with the best record. |

I have a bad feeling that you're right, Barry. Hamilton will probably lose some votes to his teammate Kinsler and I don't think the Angels have any other viable candidates. If K-Rod wins it could be the worst MVP choice ever. He's on pace for fewer than 70 IP, is issuing over 5 BBs per, and is arguably not even the best reliever on his own team this year (I'd say Arredondo has been better and Shields about as good). |

Saves is a tricky statistic, and I've only seen the guy pitch against the Yankees. But he still may get it. |

i think cliff lee might be a darkhorse for the AL MVP award. right now he is 17-2 with a 2.43 ERA. the indians as a team have only won 56 games. that means lee by himself is responsible for winning 30 percent of all of clevelands games. i dont think there is any other single player who can make the claim that they alone are responsible for 30 percent of their team's wins. |

Lee is the current favorite for the Cy Young, but not the MVP. |

Look at Santana's statistics compared to Webb's; they are eerily similar but for wins. Had the Mets' bullpen not blown six Santana wins, he might be the leading Cy Young candidate. |

lee will bring the debate and focus of "value" in the most valuable player award. i dont think it can be argued that k-rod is the most valuable player to the angels considering he hasn't been particularly dominant and has a walk ratio that would be almost 4.5 per 9 innings and isn't even the best pitcher on the team. |

Santana has been pitching great but the Mets' bullpen can be god awful. Didn't he leave a game recently well ahead after 8 innings and the relievers surrendered six runs in the 9th? |
