Default The Hunt of the T222 Fatimas....

Posted By: Jimi

Alright, I gotta ask. Who's hunting down those tough T222s? What kind of luck are you having and can you post your favorite T222 from your own collection? Which was the toughest to obtain for you?

I only know a couple of other serious T222 collectors other than myself and those guys are pretty much down with their sets. I still have a few more to go, but I'm doing well for only spending about 3 months on it.

Please share!

Jimi

Nice looking Leach, Mike! Didn't know you were hiding that one from me!

Rob, whenever you are ready to let go of that one to me, just let me know! Funny, I now know 5 people with the Leibold and not a single one of those people are me!

I ran across 5 of them at a local estate auction about two months back...they all went higher than I thought they should have so I didn't get any, but was surprised to just see them at a local sale. The cards were Jack Barry, Boardwalk Brown, Ray Keating, Stuffy McInnes, and Hub Perdue...they all would have graded in the SGC10-20 range and they all sold for around $80-125 each. There were also three Fatima team cards and they all sold for over $400 each and not a single one would have graded better than SGC10. I anticipated this sale for over two weeks hoping no one else would show up, but of course two other guys showed up who wanted them very badly I guess.

I took some time tonight to look at the backs of my Fatimas, and out of the 30 or so that I have, 4 of them have "Factory No. 42 Fourth District NC" on the back rather than the typical "Factory No. 25 Second District of VA" on the back. I've not been able to find any info on the origination of these difference and whether either is rarer than the other. Certainly at this point there isn't a premium for the No. 42 backs, but I found it interesting that 2 out of the four that I have are a SP and the Alexander.

Still a nice card, Bryan. Too bad for that upper left edge though.

Bill, Richard, Mike,

Any T222 pickups at the National? Did Henry or Johnson fall into your laps?

Jimi -

I saw a fair amount of T222's at the show (15 or so), but they were the usual 'easy' ones: Marquard, Sweeney, Lapp, Murray, etc. and one nice PSA 4 Alexander that I didn't even ask the price on because I wanted to keep my eyeballs attached. Not a single short print anywhere.

Below are the only 2 T222 Henry cards I've seen in 6 yrs of collecting T222's. I kept the one on the left and sold the other. If you ever get one, keep it close!

Ive had many over the years and many of the same players over and over.

The low numbers are very common compared to the high numbers 12-15 (in case you didnt know they are numbered)

Here is my Chance, nice except for small hole

Sounds like I really didn't miss much then. Heck, I may end up considering this set complete minus the Henry if I ever get that far!
