How did I get beat by 16 cents? Do you not have to go up at least a dollar? Rob

Bob, I suppose if someone had a ceiling bid of $10.16 and you put in a snipe for $10 then the final selling price would be $10.16. That's a lousy way to lose one. |

To you it looks like someone didn't overbid you by the proper increment. But from the outside it looks fine. |

I have lost several sales on ebay with the exact same bid or very slightly MORE than the winner. The first bid with the high enough, or even the same, increment wins...... |

I've lost lots by 1 cent on ebay. I've also lost out on inumerable lots by $1 or less. This is why I try not to do business on ebay. I don't mind being topped. I don't even mind being topped at the last second. I do mind losing by a $%#$%^& increment based on a bidding "system" that no legitimate auction house would use. This is what happens when a system is designed by pez dispenser collectors. |

You can also lose with the same price/tie. If two people set a snipe at $100, the first snipe to go off wins the tie. |

If it is any consolation, through the years I have lost many items by small amounts. But, I remember getting in contact with the buyers after the auction and found out they were willing to much higher than I was. I could have driven the price up, but was not going to win. |

with respect to ebay, i guess thats something to consider. what is the MAX i'm willing to spend. so if you bid $10, and lose by a penny, would you have spent $10.02 to win it? Then thats what you have to put in when you decide to place your top bid. So that if you get beat by a penny, you wouldn't have put in your extra two cents to win the lot. |
