IMO crawford is one of the all-time greats of the game. there is always debate here who does not belong in the HALL OF FAME and i don't think anyone has ever listed him as one who should not be in. he was by all accounts a 5 tool player. crawford last played in the majors in 1917 and was elected to the hall in 1957 by the dreaded veterens comitee,21 years after it opened! such lesser players as home run baker, rabbit maranville, fred clarke, schalk, bresnahan,& the trio of t/e/c. were already in. Well, no one questions Crawford's place in the Hall--but why elevate him by taking a swipe at Fred Clarke?! As a ballplayer, his competitiveness has been compared to McGraw's and Cobb's. He is a .312 lifetime hitter against National League pitching. And he led the Bucs to four pennants and to 12 first division seasons out of the 14 years he managed the Pirates. I don't think there was a better player-manager in the 20th century than Cap Clarke, so lay off him, eh. |

Im tired of hearing about t/e/c not being deserving of the hall. They held together the infield of the 1906-1910 cubs who won 4 pennants and 2 world series. Chance deserves it without a doubt.Evers was known as being one of the smartest players in history and tinker is possibly the best cluth hitter of all time. Sometimes lifetime averages dont show for what a great player one was. Ive read about 50 books on pre WW1 era players and Maranville has gotten many a nod from the old timers. As crooked as Hal Chase was, He was no doubt a great first basemen and probably his throwing games effected his FA. We did not see these players and should read into the people who did to know truely how great they were. I have read many a player mention something good about tinker evers and chance and never heard one thign bad about them from anyone that actually1 saw them |

i never said fred clarke,tinker/evers/chance or rabbit maranville were not great players or deserving of being elected to the hall of fame. (as a matter of fact,i am one of the few here who believes there should be MORE players in the hall). now please, mark and sean, try READING my post again. these were lesser players than crawford, and were elected sooner. not undeserving or not great, but certainly not 5 tool players like crawford was. |

Here is my only Wahoo. Sam Crawford was one of the greatest players of the early 20th century. The guy still has the triples record and was the first player ever to lead both leagues in home runs. He was a clutch hitter who was feared by every team he ever played against. |

I read it perfectly well. I have just been seeing sooooo many posts slagging of t/e/c/ that its starting to annoy me. And my point was that anyone who is in the hof deserves to be. I love reading sam's part in glory of their times. He sounds like a take no bull kinna guy |
