But many are not... A doctored Fritsch "reprint". I despise these BIG dealers that manufacture reprint sets. How they can even consider these won't one day remorph into a vintage find is moronic. Guess the $9.95 a set is worth the risk. |

Steve - saw that one as well - there has been an inundation of bad looking reprints on ebay over the last 2 days. Let's hope ebay will take some of the newly proposed fees and use them for better monitoring. |

I TOTALLY agree about the creation of these reprint sets - lousy idea!!! I have no problem with taking an old photograph of a player and turning it into a modern tribute card. But it should, in no way, resemble a "real" card that was previously issued, imo. |

I think reprints are good for the hobby, so long as they say the word reprint prominently on the back (I know it often gets rubbed out by scammers, but it is usually pretty apparent) |

I understand your point, Matt, about introducing the old-style looking cards to new collectors who can't afford vintage. Its just that I (and many others) have been duped early on in our collecting careers by such altered reprints, having nothing to compare them to at the time. Sure, I should have done more research, known about forums like this, etc. But, when I was a newbie, I was simply unaware that reprint sets like this had been created. Thankfully, most of my mistakes were relatively small ones, financially. But as was said earlier, those cards just beg for fraudulent behavior. I wonder what the percentage of fakes on ebay were made from reprint sets versus fake cards made from scratch through printing images of a real card (homemade fakes)? I would bet there are many more of the former. Much less work involved. |
