Advice On Selling Entire Collection

Hello all,

With the exception of a few Cobb pieces and other stuff I can cram into a medium size safety deposit box, I may be forced to liquidate my entire collection. I will be out of the country for an extended period of time and really have no other option. Would prefer to sell as an entire collection, good with the bad. I don't have the time to do ebay and an auction house is too far down the line. Pre-war to present baseball, nice golf stuff, non-sports, nice older hockey, etc.. I'm eclectic I guess. Please advise. Hopefully not too OT or should this be in the BST? Hopefully it is ok with you Leon. Just looking for some solid advice.

Hi Paul,
The problem with selling it all together, is that you'll be limiting your buying audience basically to dealers since most people aren't looking to buy all different kinds of various cards at once. If you have just a little more time, I would split the stuff at least into a few groups - 1 for non-sports, 1 for hockey, 1 for golf, 1 for pre-war baseball and 1 for modern baseball. Sell each lot on ebay with lots of pictures. You won't take in as much as you would if you listed each item separately, but 5 or 6 lots is much more manageable then 500.

Nice to be able to deal with one trustworthy person who can do all of the sales work - - and get the benefit of the best mix of an auction and eBay.



if you prefer selling the cards yourself...

I would always suggest the BST first, and then individual listing on eBay with the remainder.

I think Paul said he does have time to list on ebay so he certainly will not have time to consign with an auction house. In that case, I would recommend typing out a comprehensive list and start fielding offers on the BST.

Thanks for the support Joe, but I may not have the customers for the golf and hockey, and the more modern stuff. Vintage baseball is my bailiwick. But I'm always willing to listen.

My advice is to find a private collector willing to buy it all. Obviously you already know the most lucrative way is to break it way down and sell it in small individual lots, but it seems you do not have the time or the many man hours that it will take. I sent an email regarding the collection. If you sell to a dealer you will take a large cut, but if you are lucky enough to find a private collector, then you will do well considering the circumstances. Just my 2 cents.

a banner advertiser here "just collect" sells collections on ebay ,they do all the work for you. there are also other sellers on ebay who provide the same service.
