Default Best looking Ty Cobb portrait card??

Posted By: Tony N.

I am currently looking to purchase a nice example of a Ty Cobb portrait card, but I figured before I purchased one, I would get your thoughts as well. I seem to like the M116 blue background, but if you guys could afford just one Ty Cobb portrait card, which one would you choose and why? Any info is apprciated! Thanks, Tony.

It might just be saying this because it's the only one I have, but I like the portrait on the E95. He looks a bit more intense than on his T206 portraits.

My favorites are the Oxford and Maple Crispette, though the E95 has been growing on me also. Cobb definitely looks like he's in kill-mode on that one! Also can't forget the Wolverine postcard and though not portraits, I also like both the Bat On and Bat Off T206s as well as the Cracker Jacks.

Wolverine News postcard
Sporting News M101-3 postcard
Maple Crispette

If I had to chose just one, it would be the Wolverine News. Great picture of a young Cobb, with a nice view of a scar near his left eye. Also, I'm very partial to dead ball era postcards. I have the Maple Crispette, but hope to pickup the others someday.

Default Best looking Ty Cobb portrait card??

Can someone help me out here tonight? I recently spoke to a gentleman on the telephone about a Ty Cobb baseball card that had somewhat of a green background?, white border possibly, bat on shoulder and a blank back. At first, I'm thinking T206 bat on shoulder Ty Cobb. But, I'm not sure if there would be any with a blank back? Could it be another card? Any ideas? I'm going to try and get him to let me see it. I'm thinking he may have just called me up for an estimate which I can't give unless I see it. But, he has my curiosity going with this one? I would say reprint, but he said he has had the card for about 30 years and found it in an old house he bought and was fixing up. Any help?

I think the T206 Cobb green background is not only the nicest cobb portrait card, it is THE nicest cobb card.

I would go with the T227 -- but is it a 'portrait'? I suppose so. While I love the E95 for some reason, to me, the picture does not bear a huge resemblance to Cobb.

The red portrait is a classic and you can't go wrong with it. My personal favorite is the bat-off-shoulder variety of T206. You get the intensity, color, and beauty. E93 (shown), E94 and E98 (same pose cut slightly higher on the waist) are great too.

Well that Wolverine News PC is really cool. He looks like he is contemplating something very dark.

I think my favorite is the Cobb T206 with bat off shoulder. Just a brilliant pose, and great color. So far it's my favorite T206 card.

Specifically Jeff's !!! . Must be one of the cleanest in existance, just jumps off the paper.

Amongst all Cobb cards, like Jim, the bat off beguiles me most. (Thanks for putting it back into circulation JK!)

but the disembodied head of the Georgia peach from the 1963 Bazooka ATG set is worth a mention.

I've always liked the e95 Cobb and I don't even like the set ! I think the t206 green background looks nicer than the red one too.

The E95, may not be the prettiest but, you can sense the determination. The Wolverine is also amazing.
