BST Issue's.....again

I just noticed that someone injected themselves into someones BST post. If memory serve's me correctly this person has done this a few times before.

I understand that you emailed him but i fail to understand why this happens from time to time. If this ruined a sale of mine i would be really upset.

Just ranting i guess because for the life of me i can't figure it out.

Scott...I've gotten really upset in the past when this type thing has happened to me. I guess at this point I don't really see a way to stop it, so what good is it going to do for me to fly off the handle? I'm planning to pull it tonight anyway and put it on eBay. But I will say I've seen enough of this, and experienced enough of it that with larger dollar items I'm to the point of bypassing the B/S/T altogether when selling now.

Because people don't get what it means to "not interfere".....What can I do? I have emailed the person and if he does it again I will handle it appropriately. I believe in giving a warning first and taking action next, depending on the situation. I gave my thought in that thread.......I suggest that when it happens you post it on the main forum so folks can know what is going on. There isn't much worse than board scrutiny on a bad situation. At least that is what I would do....For the record it is interference when publicly questioning someone, in a BST thread, about why they are selling when they just bought something....You can email them privately if you need to know...otherwise, it shouldn't be in the thread......at least to me that is interference......best regards

My take is that completely ruins any chance for a sale at that point...as far as the item concerned I'm waiting to hear back from one individual and then it will be taken down anyway. There were two additional inviduals last night that were both going to come up with trade bait....now, neither of those have responded this morning...although, I haven't emailed them either. Would a stray remark in the B/S/T have any reflection on individuals interested? Maybe, maybe not. I just think from now on I am probably better off only listing my beater T206's I have dupes of or upgrade. Then if someone wants to question why I'm selling my T206 Dooin portrait in a PSA 2 after having it for a week or question why i'm selling it for $32 when I paid $24...it will just look a little more ridicilious.

In my eyes...I don't give a crap what anyone sells, buys, trades...or what they pay for something or sell something for. If you have a T206 Tim Jordan in a SGC 10 and somebody gives you $400 bucks for it...I'm not going to lose any sleep over it.

Yes, there are fees to deal with when selling through eBay or one of the auction houses...but you also don't have to worry about remarks coming into your sale page out of nowhere.

Given your strong thoughts on the subject I think ebay is a great place for you to sell. I can't police, nor will I, the BST area 7x24.....I still think it's a great place to do trades and stuff but my opinion counts as "1"....just like everyone elses.....take care

Nothing was meant in ill will towards you. Certainly hope it wasn't taking that way. And of course I realize you can't police it 24/7...nor should you have to. I would like to think a couple of the repeat performers that do this sort of thing over there don't get much by the regulars here.

No hard feelings here....but if someone doesn't like it (you know the rest).....Like I said....anyone that interferes more than once (I will usually give one warning) is in serious jeopardy of losing their priviledges over there.....I don't know of that happening yet...If others do then they need to let Brian McQueen or myself know....

I read the thread (I think) in question and really fail to see how asking a simple question is interference.

Now if someone would have replied with "Are you out of your mind? That card only sells for 800.00" I would be inclined to agree.

Asking a simple somewhat personal question may not be tactful but I would hardly consider that as interference.

I'd also deem going over to the PSA board and replying with statements about the "Net54" thread to large popular threads over there as "interference". I highly doubt such childish behavior would be tolerated on this board from PSA posting members.

The post over there was definitely inappropriate in my opinion, but I doubt it would sway anyone away from buying it.

If you're not interested in the card then stay out of the thread. How hard is that?

John...I respect your opinion and your certainly entitled to it.

This is exactly the reason though there is no use in getting all mad and upset by things over there. I see it differently. Asking "Do you even have the card in hand yet"..to me is a statement that certainly is not needed.

I have certainly listed items over there before that I didn't have in hand, ie, submissions that just popped that I was trying to unload rather quickly and such...and each time I always say "I don't have the card in my hands yet".

And yes...I've also been the victim (although six months ago) of a "Well you paid X for that card, why are you selling it for Y"?

Again...just my take...and no need getting mad because everyone will feel differently. And I do agree with if you don't like it then don't list it there. I'll pick and choose I guess what should be there and what shouldn't from the get go. It certainly isn't pleasant however as I've made quite a few friends dealing with transaction there and would prefer that over eBay..but some of the outsiders looking in remarks just aren't worth it.

I'll let this one go..no need to go any further or disagree with anyone else that decides they need to tell me why it isn't a big deal.

I know that means everything to you, and you now feel you can finally go on with your day, but I just wanted to chime in and say that I am on your side, because I am a bit punchy and feel like stating an irrelevant opinion about something.

that for-sale thread reads really weird...the questionable post sticks out like a sore thumb, I don't know that it would hurt a sale, but it certainly identifies a potential blocked bidder.

Whatever you decide, if you throw them over to Ebay, please don't stop from posting them in the EBay section of the BST!

If you are not interested in the card on the BST don't post.

I've seen posts that ask 'why are you selling when you were so excited?'
I've seen posts that say 'why is your price X when you paid Y?'
I've seen posts make general comments about the price.

All of these type posts work toward making a sale harder. Why do that?

If you are wondering anything like the above - email the seller privately - and keep it off board.

Dave- you have every right to be mad but you should have no trouble selling that card. Everybody wants it.

I don't know why people make those comments. The board rules are very clear. What possible concern is it to anybody what someone does with a baseball card? It's Dave's card, and he does not have to explain his intentions to anybody.

well as a collector, i see the point being made where you're all excited about announcing to the board your latest acquisition (and we're happy for you!)...showing the card in its raw form and later in the sgc holder (which shows off the card really well!!). then suddenly it's up for sale...kinda bring a downer to things. i've certainly bought stuff with the intention of reselling, because how else are we able to afford the cards we really want for our collections, but I'm not gonna post it in the latest pickup threads one day and post it on bst the next. of course everyone can do as they please with their cards.

otoh i've had a seller ask me if the card I'm buying is for resale or for my personal collection...like wtf does that have to do with the anything??? that i find more annoying than anything.

Dave, FWIW I've sold cards shortly after I've bought them too. Sometimes it's because I ran across two in a short time and bought both (one a slight upgrade). Even if I fully intended to keep the first one, I'll sometimes sell it if a second comes along in the same stretch of a few days - I figure better to do that than back out of a deal with the first seller.

I've also sold cards after only a few days just because I wanted to see what one looked like in person. I usually just try for break-even on these "rentals". The only one I kind of regret there is an E90-1 Oakes that I held for a few weeks and sold.

I thought the questions in your thread were far from benign and sounded outright challenging to me. If I were you I'd be mad too. And if I weren't saving for a roof and gutters in the next few months I'd be tempted to grab it - nice card.

Finally, as to a seller asking a buyer if it's to flip or for personal collection (someone above mentioned that), as a seller I am more likely to take less than I wanted for a card - all the way down to break-even sometimes - if the buyer is someone that is collecting and needs it. This is especially true if I know it is a financial stretch for that person. I'm probably pretty naive in that area, duh, but I'd rather help someone out price wise in some instances depending on the amount of money involved. If the person just wanted to flip it, then I'm more likely to not back down on price - in that case it's just like me handing the buyer cash. I don't ask the question outright, but if I can get a feel for intent it may play a part in setting my bargaining position.

My point was if you don't want to buy it than stay out of it. This is just one of those things that really burns me up. So what if someone can flip something for a profit ? More power to them.

Is it a jealousy issue ? I don't see any other reason for it. I have many times bought on the BST from people who just won the card on ebay. God bless em if they can make a few bucks. If the margin is to high i pass..... simple as that.
Just seems like it happens with the same person from time to time. Could i be wrong ? Sure. But i don't think so.

.........it's nobody's business why he/she is selling the card except the sellers. We've all had to sell from time to time - maybe to upgrade, maybe to flip, maybe because you found yourself in a tough financial position that you needed some help with. I've bought and sold several cards on B/S/T and if ever saw one of them up there again or if I ever tried to sell one of them again, it shouldn't be an issue.

It comes down to common sense and it's a personal choice of the seller - no explanation needed.

Just out of curiosity, would it be possible to eliminate all responses to the b/s/t threads? Just let the seller update the posting as needed. Let the transaction occur through e-mails, off the board.

Also, for Quan, as always, I agree with Joann. As a seller, I always gave more condideration to a collector over someone looking to flip. As a buyer, I always have my wantlist in hand. Ted Z. gave me a great deal at the last Ft. Wash. show, knowing I needed the card. Saved me (cost him)$20. Not much, I know, but that wantlist saved me about $150 during the day I was there. For us armpit collectors, that's another hour in the bargain boxes.

i just looked at the April pickup thread and you said you were excited to get this in.. on April 15, do you even have the card in hand yet?

Try to imagine if someone was in the midst of selling a card to a collector at a show, and a third party walked up and said something to this effect. Chances are, it wouldn't happen, because the third party would know that the reaction would be severe. Plus, you'd hope someone would have enough common sense to butt out of a deal he or she had no part in.

Unfortunately, common sense often is in scarce supply online.

Since this whole thread revolves around my post i will respond, but only this one time, as i dont want to argue with anyone. Yes i was interested in the card, obviously not now. And if Dave didnt want the recent buy to be public knowledge, he shouldnt have posted it in an open forum. I wont even check back so dont bother with the put-downs, i wont see them.
