Value of damaged Tobacco cards

I am relatively new the forum, and thought I would post a question to see what some of the guys think here. My question is this....What value do damaged tobacco cards have if any. I'm mainly concerned with back damage. There is a woman who owns an antique shop near where I live. she has sojme t212 Obak cards that are in an album. One of the cards is a Buck Weaver card, and I have been debating on what to offer her for the whole lot of cards that are glue ito it. Some cards are T212's, some are T205's, and there are 5 T206 southern league players. Do these cards have any value in the album or if they are removed ? I've done successful removal many tiimes in the past without damage, but this album looks like it will be a challenge. should I even bother making the woman an offer ?

The big question is "what is she asking for the lot?". No need to answer here, but if it is reasonable I would DEFINITELY take it and attempt to remove the cards. Obviously I would start on a common (not the Weaver) to see how well they soak. There is definitely a market for damaged cards....just look at my collection!

absolutely they have value. if the fronts look nice and the paperloss on the reverse is minimal (assuming the cards dont soak off) then you will still probably get an sgc 30 (or a psa 5 ). If the back damage is severe, then you are looking at a psa 1 or sgc 10. a nice front with back damage, even if graded a 1/10 will sell for a premium over a beater 1/10.

The fronts of the cards are in Fair to Very Good condition. the Weaver card is creased and has rounded corners and stains, and some scratches. She wants $200 for the album which includes a lot of non basbeball tobacco cards also. I've done immersion restoration many times on tobacco cards, but the glue or paste is thick on alot of the cards. it is literally oozed out around the borders of some of the cards. I'm going to offer her $75 cash and see what happens. The dealers around here are always complaining that they aren't making any money and the antique store competitiion is stiff in this little town. they call it the Antiques capital of the midwest.

Man you are pushing it I think. The Weaver is worth more than the $200 alone!! Just give the old lady her $200 and count yourself lucky!!!

As Pete noted, if the lot includes a Weaver, $200 sounds look a good deal. It might be a fair deal without the Weaver. My experience is antique stores usually way overprice baseball cards, like $200 for a 1957 Gil McDougald.

Buy it before she has the chance to find out it is worth a lot more, or before someone else walks into the store and beats you to it. I would put my sneakers on and run really fast!! And if the cards aren't too bad you could pay a conservator to remove them properly.
