Since getting into strip cards a little more I want to make sure I id this one correctly. The SCD says the W519 "numbered two" (type 2) have smaller print than the "numbered one", and this seems to have that, so would that be the correct id "W519 numbered type 2." ? This one is going into my regular collection as my type for the series....regards |

Although Burdick listed the set as a baseball set, the actual issue was comprised of a lot of different subjects in various strips. Burdick's listings on W cards were sketchy and ambiguous. In all likelihood, W529 (which is actually at least 7 different boxing issues I have been able to catalog) and W519 should be considered as one omnibus set comprising boxers, baseball players and movie stars. This isn't the only instance of Burdick splitting issues by subject in recognition of the tendencies of collectors not to overlap. T3 and T9 are all part of the same set (they are even checklisted together on the card backs) yet Burdick split them up to reflect the subsets of different sports. T224 and T229 were split even though they are the same cards with different brands (like T206). |
