I don't understand what your problem is with nationalsportscards.com? This is a great alternative venue to post your cards instead of going the eBay route. There is no cost to anyone involved and it allows the facilitation of smoother transaction, especially for those that may not be that familiar with board members.

With you deleting David's links, does this also mean that you will also be deleting all links to eBay in the BST?

I have nothing against that site. I told the gentleman I didn't have a problem with him posting every once in while about cards on the site. I looked at the thread and it was almost exactly every 7 days he was bumping it to the top, with a link to another site. I told him I thought every week was too much. I don't think this site should be used to advertise other sites too much. If anyone is going to advertise a site then I should advertise mine (and very well might in the future). Then, he bumped it after 8 days, to the top again. I then deleted all references to his site but left the cards he had for sale and his email address. So I didn't delete his whole posts just references to the webstite (link). I gotta tell you my patience is wearing real thin on some issues. regards

I just saw his explanation where he cut and pasted my email telling him I thought every week was too much. His new thread was 8 days since the last one and then he did it again. I am not going to go for this kind of BS. He incriminated himself and that's fine. No issue there. I'll make it easy and public. I don't want to see any reference to that site, on this site, for the next 6 months....and you can count the days starting today. regards

I love watching the B/S/T for sales. What I "personally" don't like doing is looking at a B/S/T thread and being directed to Ebay or nationalsportscards.

Don't get me wrong, I use Ebay an aweful lot and frequently check new additions on nationalsportscards. But B/S/T should be used for "direct" purchasing and requests. I don't see a problem if you advertise something on B/S/T for a few days, move it to Ebay/nationalsportscards and bump/update the thread stating the cards were moved there.

But think how out of control and "uninformative" the B/S/T would become if everyone was allowed to post new ebay/nationalsportscards additions to it. It would like like the Beckett or PSA boards, "spam" that I don't bother to click on.

Just my thoughts

Being new to this forum, and not wanting to step on any landmines, what are the particular issues that you are becoming frustrated with? Maybe a brief breakdown would help minimize whatever they are.

By the way, I have hooked up with several knowledgable people, and we have exchanged information, and items. I guess the one thing I notice in here, is that there does seem to be a bit of sniping going on between participants, or an intolerance for others tastes, and interests. That adds little to the purpose of all this. We all have different interests, and various financial capabilities, but shouldn't there be a bit more tolerance for our differences? Of course there will be the occasional con man, or pretender in here, but hopefully they are the exception.

Otherwise, it has proved to be a worthwhile forum.

I know you are new to this forum and don't really know me or the parameters too well. The Forum Faq's give a very brief explanation of what can and can't be done. It will never be possible to lay out all of my reasoning for every possible situation I encounter on the site. I have some pretty normal beliefs and guidelines, in general. If I ask someone not to do something then I expect that to be adhered to. It's never personal and I am only doing things that I think are in the best interest of this site. Collectors are very passionate and there is always going to be some bickering. No big deal. Anything can be overdone though and then I will step in. As in this issue I asked for something not to be done every week....so he did it after 8 days......now he's "done" for 6 months. If you continue with our mostly happy little forum you will get to know my personality and hot buttons. I think I am as fair as the next guy in most situations. I also know that some folks think that since I sort of oversee this site that I shouldn't have an opinion about stuff and make it public. That is certainly anyone's right to think. I disagree. There are some other things that are not being made public, about this site and the way it's being run, that I may look at changing in the future. It won't affect the direction though. regards

Also, this is a perfect place to say that I wouldn't mind the NationlSportscards.com link to be added to the dealer or auction section of links. That's the proper place for advertising.... and that I would not mind....regards

I had a related discussion with Leon and Brian McQueen a few months ago when they both encouraged me to list as much of my inventory as I want on the BST. Since selling baseball memorabilia is my only source of income I felt I would be freeloading by listing my inventory for free. As such, I have only made occasional posts on the thread. That is different than a collector listing some of his duplicates for sale. I think there is a fine line between what is fair and what may be considered taking advantage, and I think this is what Leon is driving at. And be certain that Leon has thought this out carefully as he always does and is not making a rash decision here.

I think that having access to the inventory of participating dealers would be an asset valued by many of us. However, having it in the B/S/T may overwhelm that thread. Is it feasible, and viewed as worthwhile to establish a resource which can facilitate access to preferred dealers inventories?

Yes...it's at the top of the front page in the vintage links section...been there since the day I took over, and before.....The dealer links go to their websites and inventory. I check them all of the time......regards

I have to clear my name and set the record straight.

1) I have been on this forum for 6 months and I try to follow all the rules.

2) If I broke any rules I would have preferred Leon to politely let me know privately. The fact is I never ONCE received an email from him (contrary to his use of the word email in the "Leon, what do you have against nationalsportscards.com?" thread) informing me that I was doing something wrong. I have yet to understand what offense I incriminated myself on.

3) I never had a predetermined advertising campain for either nationalsportscards.com or my own cards. I am a rare user of the BST thread, mostly lurk. I have recently decided to sell some of my T207 cards and haphazardly posted a few in the beginning and added must more after a few weeks. The dates of my posts are clearly visible in my T207 thread in the BST (the title of which Leon edited for some reason). They are as follows below and have no cheap bumps in them, nor are they coordinated as Leon states:

9/7 I added a few T207 cards for sale and did inlude a link to my OWN T207 cards on the nationalsportscards site.

9/10 I added one more and decided to go through the rest of my T207.

9/19 I was able to have some time to scan 10 more cards and added them.

9/20 LEON TOOK ISSUE WITH SOMETHING I DID AND EDITED ALL MY POSTS TO REMOVE MY LINKS AND LATER ACTUALLY CHANGED SOME OF MY TEXT THAT WAS SEPARATE FROM THE LINKS. I NEVER HEARD FROM LEON PRIOR TO THIS THAT HIS PATIENCE WAS WEARING THIN WITH ME. NOR DID I EVER HEAR PRIVATELY FROM HIM VIA EMAIL THAT HIS PATIENCE WAS WEARING THIN WITH ME.

9/27 I originally ignored his editing but when I noticed he later edited my titles I got pissed off that my thread was edited and my links removed. I also noticed that Leon then removed his own wording from the thread he edited so I posted a new message with a copy of his text that he himself later removed for some unknown reason.

4) I have not had a private email conversation with Leon for at least 4 months when he emailed me with a request that i use my real full name if I posted in any predetermined 'controversial threads'. I found his request reasonable and haven't heard from him since.

5) I simply wanted to sell some cards and show the links to them.

6) Looks like I haven't yet made it to the 'in' list of members. I appear to have very little slack on my rope.

I don't hate you. I don't dislike you. I don't even know you except for your website which I think is good and have nothing against. If you can't understand what I wrote about, about me thinking every week bumping your post WITH YOUR WEBSITE ADDRESS LINK, to the top, then I can't help you. Quite honestly I didn't think that bumping your post WITH YOUR WEBISTE LINK, to the top AFTER 8 DAYS, instead of a week, was keeping in the spirit of what I asked you not to do. One request Leon, If you don not allow reference to your inventory for sale on nationalsportscards.com site being allowed, then you should no longer allow the mention of cards being up on ebay. It is only fair.

As most of you know list most of my cards for sale on the site and it works great for me, they take no money and charge no money, but yet we promote ebay that does charge. The site allows us scans and description without using Net 54 space I would think this would be an advantage.

Can we list in the B/S/T without mention in the title but a link to are cards in the body?

I will stand by what you decide but feel it only fair that there should be no reference to any secondary site that houses cards for sale.

ANYTHING IN MODERATION is probably ok. He posted EVERY WEEK WITH A LINK TO HIS SITE. I don't want that much advertising to other sites. If individuals put links to their auctions on ebay, and do it in moderation, I have no issue with that...and I do that too....regards (can't we all get along )

OK for people to post an occasional ebay link if they are putting up something of real interest to the collectors here.

OK for people to post a link to their personal web sites to a specific image of an item offered in the BST thread. Makes it easier on everyone interested in the item if they can just jump to the item image.

OK for dealers to post an occasional item of particular interest to the collectors here.

NOT OK for a dealer to inventory dump in the BST. You have a web site, link to it in the link section and we'll visit if we are interested.

NOT OK for people to continually use the BST to post ebay sales, esp. if the post consists of no more than words to the effect that "I've just put a bunch of stuff on ebay".

NOT OK for people to use the BST to dump links to their sites. That's what the link section is for.

NOT OK for people to bump a BST listing every week. If the item doesn't go after a bump or 2 at most, it should be considered a dead post and left to rot.

Lastly, Leon is doing a great job dealing with these situations. It ain't easy to be king, especially king of the dip**its

A couple of points from the "Moderator" point of view....

My goal, as is Leon's, is to strengthen our own Net 54 board. When you start mentioning site's that offer cards for direct sale, basically exactly what our BST section does, it weakens the section of our forum that we have created for this purpose. This is also a big reason we've objected to starting a running thread each month for BST -- you're basically "watering down" all the pages that we've already set up to do the exact same thing.

Also, I've also noticed the average board member's distaste for having to check multiple BST sections or locations....I think many prefer to just keep everything in one spot.

Another thing, Leon and I have been slammed with questions along the lines of "Why do you guys allow "this" but not "this"?". We feel that the fair thing to do is remain "equal-opportunity" if you will, and not let anyone promote their site over anyone elses. Leon keeps pointing to the Vintage Links page and that's exactly why we have it. We don't mind threads about a brand new site selling cards or whatever when it starts out, but when we see a thread about it every few days, it wears out its welcome.

One thing though, not sure how Leon feels but I'm not against individuals posting a larger group of cards for sale in BST. I think if I checked in one day and saw a huge list of 200 cards, that might be a little silly but I don't want to deny dealers or anyone else a chance to part with their cards. I feel that people make the BST section stronger by listing a good sized number of cards. It increases the number of people that may acquire something they've been looking for and would be happy with. That kind of experience would bring people back and encourage them to check back for additional visits. I also feel that, like the Chatroom, the BST pages are ways that individuals develop new "contacts" and/or friendships in the hobby - leading to a stronger forum and community.

Just my two cents....
