Completely agreed. The way the card has been cut seems fishy to me.

Here is a link to a gallery of cards from this set from Old Carboard. I also believe this example to be a reproduction as the back is a different color from the front. But what do I know? ![]()

Great items guys, keep them coming. Enclosed couple more pieces. First is the front page of a full newspaper The Boston Post. Dated Sept. 29`th 1920 this story is the direct result of Joe Jackson`s testimony the day before when he 1`st said "I took monies from the gamblers" and the rest.....is history. Secondly, a game used ball from 1915 between the White Sox and the local Utica team. Many of the 1919 starters were in this game, maybe Eddie Cicotte threw one of his famous "knucklers" with this very ball, can only imagine.

Nothing too fancy but the full 9-24-1942 Sporting News with Joe Jackson front page feature story. One of several newspapers I loaned to ESPN and was used in their feature classic Black Sox show back in 2001 (still kicking myself I took a payment for my help instead of a credit at the end of the show!)
Once upon a time I bought a W514 in 1999 I think off ebay for around $700, had it graded and it was SGC 80 I think (or 88 cant remember) it was beautiful! I sold it around 2005 for about $1800 and still kicking myself for that as well! |

Thomas, really like the 1942 Sporting News. It`s the different type items like yours that make Jackson collecting so interesting. Enclosed is a Joe Jackson/Ray J Cannon 1951 correspondence. Cannon mailed Joe this letter and enclosed some old campaign material. Cannon was an attorney for the White Sox during the 1919 trail and he represented Joe when he in turn sued C Comiskey for monies withheld as a result of the scandal. An aside, maybe foreshadowed in the note, both Joe and Cannon died within the next 9 months.

Very nice w514 but not my old one...border at the top is too big. Pretty sure mine was 80 and the last 3 numbers of the LLC# was -001 as it was the first of I think 6 I submitted at the same time.

I actually found a raw picture of those old w514's of mine before I sent them off to be graded...once upon a time I owned this beauty...(I had 5 graded at the same time and sold them all off and I have been able to buy back 2 of the 5 thus far)

last story on this old card of mine...I believe the guy I sold it to cracked it open and attempted to trim the left border and made a ruff edge...never really checked into it but I did some research and looks like this is my card (the paper blemish on the right edge that is more visible on the back) with the "trimmed" edge resulting in a worse grade of 50

Wow!
How do you end up owning 5-6 copies of this card? ![]() Did you just have a feel early on before they were popular and picked up every one you came across, or was there a 'find' of sorts? |

No I only had one Joe Jackson...I had a full Black Sox player subset, 5 of which (including the one JJ) I submitted and they all graded very high by SGC...sorry if that was confusing to follow

Nice ones, Doug. The Police Gazette is a real eye catcher! I don't recall ever seeing that one.

The pictures really did not help because it is so faded and I tried to darken the lighting to capture it. The corner fraying looks very natural to me under the microscope. I will see if I can get any better pics to capture the print better. Someone mentioned it might be a 1915 unc card, but it doesn't size up to those. It is more in line with the size of a t206 card, and I believe it is some other release. I doubt I have a 1/1 here or something, but there has been weirder found and I was just hoping someone may have seen this image on another card or some other print besides the more known ones. Al`s post of Joe`s grand jury testimony on Sept. 28`th 1920, his 1`st time admitting he "took monies", great read. Enclosed an 8 X 10 of Joe within minutes of his initial confession to State`s Asst. D A Replogle at the Cooks County court house that day. And as they say the rest is history.
