creasing or staining?

when buying a lower grade card which are you more tolerant of?recently i've been looking at crackerjacks,passing on more stained cards,going with less staining more creasing.i realize this usually is not a cut or dry decision.interested in other collestors thoughts.

Personally, I will take a stain over a crease anytime, particularly with a set like Cracker Jacks, which are so often found stained anyhow. Creases always seem to catch my eye before anything else on the card.

It's all about the asthetics of the card. A light stain or crease is no big deal. Heavy stains or creases are really distracting. With CJs, it's really hard to avoid staining, so I'd treat them like OJ, don't worry a whole lot about the grade and go the card with best eye appeal and picture quality.

I would prefer staining over creasing any time . As those who know me well would attest , I can tolerate almost anything else including centering or rounded corners but not creases .To me probably only trimming or paper loss are more disconcerting .

I can't tell you without seeing the item but I know whether I can tolerate the stain versus crease when I see it. I generally prefer some creases to staining but when it comes to rarities, I'll take 'em any way I find 'em.

I am NOT tolerant of either one. they both make a card look ugly, and lowers the cards' value. Adam W. I get the "staining" part, but what does "creasing"have to do with porn?

Yeah, I won't touch that.

Staining over creasing. Don't mind light creases over staining and if it's only on the back. I dislike T206's that are creased (no matter what and my collection doesn't have a single creased T206) and tolerate OJ's that have fanatastic eye appeal. I'll take e107's folded over to look like crane as my Tenney has seen better days. Some of the e107's that have been offered of late are incomplete anyways. Anyone have a time machine to go to Mastro auction like five years ago when half the e107 set was was auctioned off in lots of ten?

Adam, I assume your lack of tolerance for staining or creasing doesn't apply to your search for a SGC 20 or PSA 2 T206 Cobb?

Then I guess all my cards are ugly seeing as how most have creases. The matty has corner creases and the cobb has a stain....man these are ugly cards ! Adam-you are most likely not going to find a t206 cobb in a PSA 2 without a crease.

After further reconsideration, I guess I would take minimal minor creasing or staning. Josh, TRUST ME, I AM NOT a cross examiners dream. During my custody trial, I had shredded by ex-g/f's good ol' "court-appointed attorney" (gotta love-em', they represent the lowlifes of society, courtesy of hard working taxpayers like myself)to pieces.

Using the Matty and Cobb above as an example, I'd definately take the crease. Then again I'd be very happy with either.

In most cases I think I'd be a bit more tolerant of creases than staining.

The Delahanty has a crease in his right lapel--it even shows through to the back. The Ewing has light staining, especially at the upper left--however, the back right is heavily stained (wonder how it got a 3?)
