I know this is a little off the normal topics, but, do any of you collect vintage tickets and if so, what are they?

I have been trying and struggling to put together some specific vintage World Series game tickets for "my" Cleveland Indians as well as any and all Ohio State Buckeye season and bowl game tickets. Thus far, I have been able to put together a nice grouping, but I am continuing to struggle to find a lot of them.

It would be nice to hear what types you go after as well as how you find them outside of the normal Ebay means. Thanks.

As a board participant you get much leeway in off topic stuff....I am sure someone on the board should be able to help. Stay away from religion (right Adam?) and politics and most other stuff is game. I think of the board as our family and you are certainly allowed to ask o/t questions occasionally. If you are not a board participant then you need to go participate on another board to ask off topic questions....regards

I just bought my first ever vintage ticket, courtesy prewarsports. Not a baseball ticket, not even a ticket involving a meet of Vancouver's forgotten gold medalist Percy Williams, but a neat item nonetheless.

I collect vintage baseball tix. I just recently began. I have a tix from 1890's-1900's as discussed in a thread yesterday (get anything new thread) as well as a tix stub from the 1954 world series. (Indians vs Giants)

I did not want to mention that here, but that goes without saying, any type of Cleveland World Series or OSU vs. the World...etc stuff, send it my way.

I picked up a real nice 1927 OSU vs Michigan ticket out of a scrap book, no tape residue at all. The other nice item was a 1920 Cleveland vs. Brooklyn World Series ticket, am waiting for it to get here.

hes a little flakey but hes one of the nicest guys ive dealt with. he also has a beautiful collection of white sox stubs including a black sox world series stub and every sked from every year theyve been in operation

the other dealer i know of who is very good goes under the name buckner on ebay. i cant remember his name though i should- he has quite a bit of my money. hes also a great guy

There's at least one more of us who has heard of Percy Williams. Thought you might appreciate this Vancouver Sun headline glass. Full headline reads: "Local Boy Wins Sprint Crown." I used to live in Vancouver back in the pre-City of Glass days. You could rent a house in Kitsilano for $200 a month, "two-and-a-juice" at the Cecil would set you back 65 cents, and the Canucks played out Hastings at the PNE. Couldn't hack the rain. Left for Hawaii in '81.
Fairly good article about "Peerless Percy" at this site. Was sad to learn that he ended up a suicide.

I remember that great statue of Bannister and Landy at Empire Stadium. (I heard they tore the stadium down. If so, is that statue still there?) Also, I recall the statue of sprinter of Harry Jerome in Stanley Park. Makes you wonder why there isn't a statue or some kind of monument to PW.

Please do not add any more SALT to my wounds... ugh, what a horrible run the Tribe has had over these... oh 100 plus years. They will soon be in the running with the Cubbies for biggest letdowns in regard to the series attempts/losses/losses/ did I say losses? :-l

It is my curse, to wait for the tribe to strike again. The last and best chance they had was the strike year and then, that was that. Someday I expect them to document all of the horrible things that have happened to this club, e.g. the boat wreck in Florida when Steve Olin, 27, and Tim Crews, 31, were killed there on March 22, 1993. There are strings of "curse" type of material that has followed the tribe as long as I can remember. How many ballplayers had career years following them leaving Cleveland? etc. Oh the PAIN!!!!!

Oh wait, I forgot to mention when they had the Marlins licked in Game 6 and let it go BYE BYE to lose in Game 7.... oh the pain... anyone know a good doctor?

Perhaps you'll like this inscribed photo of Percy in his Canadian Olympics uniform ("to the gang") Percy lived for the most part of his life in a house two blocks from where we now live (near City Hall). The honouring plaque is of course placed one block from where it should be. There is a bio of Percy that (I believe) Bill McNulty wrote and is available at the BC Sports HOF (or was last time I was there)

I don't make it a habit of collecting tickets, but I have quite a few of them just because they are usually found in scrapbooks which is where I find a lot of the photos that are the focus of my collection. I do have a couple of WS ticket stubs though (1933, and a 1968) just because I found them listed wrong on ebay and couldn't pass up the bargains. Most of my stubs are from regular season games in the 1930's-50's. I also got a slug of 1939 Hollywood Stars ticket stubs from the PCL when I bought a couple of programs and a bunch of photos in one lot at an antique show. Another thing you run across often in old scrapbooks is parking permits. I have found a few from the 1930's for Wrigley field.

Vintage tickets are another speciality of mine.

I have several tickets from the Players League- including a season pass
and tickets to 7 of the 9 Federal League teams which match my scorecards.

I have an extensive collection of rare Negro League tickets, including two
advertising Satchel Paige pitching.

A full ticket to the first Nigthgame at Ebbets Field- which was in the shape
of a lightbulb and also was memorialized by Van Der Meer's second no-hitter

I have some wonderfully illustrated NL tickets from the 30's (quite rare)

In the modern era I have one of the few tickets for Jackie Robinson's first
major league game at Ebbets Field, along with a full unused mint ticket
for the last game at Ebbets Field, the first Doddger game in Chavez Ravine
and the first Dodger game on the west coast.

I actually am planning to have PSA grade a number of these tickets since
they are "in mint shape"
