Cuban cards

There seems to be a lot of vintage collectors who pay large sums of money for Cuban cards. Can anyone explain to me the appeal of these cards?

This 1951 Toleteros Josh Gobson was discussed before. The seller is describing the card as the third most significant card behind only the T206 Wagner and the Baltimore Ruth. Is it really a $50000 card?
