I recently purchased this T200 NY Giants card on eBay from a very, very repuatble person. It was my first T200, I originally got it because I'm a huge Christy Mathewson fan who can't afford to spend much on cards. (Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, right?) Got hooked to the set when I saw Jim Thorpe is on the card too and Shoeless Joe is on the Cleveland card! Anyways, my concern is this... |

Is the print missing becasue of surface damage? |

The original T200 Fatimas are actual photographs. The images (team photos) on the reprints will have a ink dot pattern under a good magnifying glass. The original T200s have no dot pattern, as real photo images do not have a dot or similar ink-and-printing press pattern. |

Not paper loss, you can see where it lookes like paper is stuck to the card by the "T" in district and the "y" in city. I'm gonna look at it under a microscope. I'm a science teacher, I'm sure my students would get a kick out of doing a "forensics study" of the card! |

Sometimes some s/w will only load about a 75k jpg. I have no luck at home loading any bigger....but at work I can. You might try a less resolution (or smaller) scan.....take care |

I hate it when no one answers.......so I grabbed mine (it's also a New York Nationals) out of my safe. It has the periods at the end of the 2 sentences. From the scan yours doesn't look like a fake though. I would think these would be difficult to fake as they were made on photographic type paper and wrinkle and curl up a lot. If the front of it looks real shiny and the back of it is dull paper then you should be ok....should be easy to tell in person...good luck |

I owned that exact card at one time, and it is definitely real. Never noticed the period differences. For the reasons stated by Leon, it would be really difficult to make a good forgery of that set. |

Ray, if you already own other T200s, a reprint would stand out like a sore thumb. |

OK, as a real card, I'd love to know if there are other cards with the periods missing. Like I said, I've seen like 10-12 backs, all with the periods at the ends of those lines. Would love to hear from someone who has a card with a back similar to mine. |

For what it's worth, all of my T200s (16) have the periods. I would not read anything into this, one or the other. |

I find it amazing that when when someone finds an anomoly in a card, it is totally dismissed by others, but I am willing to bet that these same people that dismiss it would be hoping they hit the jackpot with a new variation if they owned the card. All you have to do is look at the silly prices people pay for a color missing from a t206, so why wouldn't this cariation command a premium? |

Jay, I appreciate the kind words. I wasn't even thinking of it in terms of hitting the jackpot! LOL, maybe I should have. I just wanted to be sure it was real. |

with the same "mistake" to make it an error or anything else like that? I always thought that if only one existed then it was just a fluke and nothing to get excited about. Just my 2 cents. |

"2 dots missing" doesn't do much for me, but if an entire line of text were missing...well, I might have to put my hat over my lap. |

If this were stamp collecting, you could probably retire on your "find". But as a baseball card I feel this is probably a legit variation that while nobody would pay a premium for it is worth noting in the catalogs, has it been compared to other NY Nat'l teams or just to other various t200 teams? Also yours appears to have a period after "New York City" in the second to last line, the ones I own/have seen have a comma. That makes it 3 dots (not merely 2) which really makes it collectible!!! |
