This is a pencil box I picked up last weekend. When I purchased it, I just assumed it was a generic baseball scene from around 1900-1910. However, as I examined the graphics more closely, I noticed that the batter in the middle and and the fielder on the left had "N Y" on their uniforms. Also, there appears to be large buildings in the background beyond the field on the left and right action scenes. I'm thinking now that the team reprented in the graphics is the New York Highlanders. I checked a couple of early pictures of Highlander teams, and the uniforms seem to match pretty closely. I don't know if the batter represents an actual player for that team, or is just a generic picture. The graphics were produced by the Stecher Co of Rochester, NY. Any thoughts or comments would be appreciated. |
