RESOLVED: A vintage (c.1920s) Ken-Wel Lou Gehrig glove sign never existed

This came up in another post but I thought it might get lost as it's not
in the "headline." This ubiquitous sign, infamous as a fake/fantasy item,
is for sale in SCP/Sotheby's upcoming auction. Btw, it has an easel back:

The question is: has a real, circa 1920s example of this sign EVER existed?
