I just purchased a T-206 Topps buyback with Joe Tinker encapsulated. I checked the old posts on this board and found an old string about someone that pulled a McGraw buyback, broke it out of the case, submitted it to SGC and learned that it had been trimmed prior to being encapsulated by Topps. Has anyone else had any similar experiences with their Buybacks? Is the moral of the story, "Keep your buybacks encapsulated"? Does SGC still have a policy of not grading Topps buybacks? Any thoughts would be appreciated. I am corrently working on the assumption that a card encapsulated by Topps as a buyback will usually be more valuable if left intact. |

If you are a collector, you've got yourself a Tinker. |

of the 'buybacks' from T206 and they brought 40-60 bucks each for VG to VGEX cards. Un-encapsulated, they would have been 15-20-25 bucks, so keep 'em in the holders........saw a story in Beckett about some dude that had collected like 300-400 of them (different ones) encapsulated. Guess he was trying to complete the set in VG for $50K or something........he only had cobb in the red and it was G to GVG I think. |

I agree with Joe P , you got a Tinker! Enjoy it! You dont actually think Topps gives a damn about any future value prospects. They are chomping at the bit to get certain collectors hooked on the encased T206s...I say "let my Tinkers go!!!" |

I was the one who unfortunately busted the Mcgraw out of the Topps holder. Since then, the card has been sent to SGC, PSA, and BGS for grading- and came back TRIMMED from all 3 companies. The card was finally slabbed (Gee...3 guesses which company would grade a trimmed card) Anyway- my only suggestion to anyone out there who has a topps buyback and wants to sell it on ebay, needs to keep it in the topps holder. For some unknown reason, the topps holder makes it more valuable- I guess everyone wants a card that was previously owned by Kit Young or something. |
