Default Friday at the National

Another great day in Chicago! We arrived at the Convention a little after 8, two of my roommates can get in the show at 8, I’ve got to wait until 9. So I get in line at Starbucks and before long I’m on the show floor. Spent a good amount of time at this certain table with stacks of 2 row boxes filled with mostly $1/$2 vintage sports and non sports in ex-mt condition but also some that were more. I did pull all the Gilligans Island cards (these were $10). If you want Beatles Monkees Star Wars there were a ton. Bought a neat selection of 1960s through the mail autographs where the sender made these paper baseball cutouts with career info of the player then sent them through the mail to sign. I’ll share a pic of one of these in the AM cause I really thought they were neat especially at $3 each. After handing dealer a stack of stuff he discounted off the total. It was fun digging through these boxes. Bought quite a few 1958 Hires Root beer cards from our old friend William Chappell which included an Aaron that was cut a “little” short lol. Never made it back up the escalator to the upstairs narrow walkway area. Great day wandering around all this cardboard.
Left the show at 5:45 dropped our backpacks in the car and walked over to the minor league ballgame “Chicago Dogs” a nice evening in the ball park where I also enjoyed eating two Chicago Dogs.
After the game, walk back to the parking garage and back to the Air B&B a bit after 10 with 15,856 steps recorded,

Went Thursday and Friday and found nothing on my list but I will not be going home empty handed. First day I picked up a 1887 Old Judge Doc Oberlander pSA 3 card and several other patches and pennants for my man cave. Today I picked up a 1912 T202 SGC 5 Ritchie/ Schulte card that had high grade T205 cards. This is for my type card collection along with the Old Judge card. Had lots of fun and even talked to Leon. In all, a good time.

I was in Chicago for work this week and managed to get out to Rosemont at about 130pm. A quick check-in at the Loews and a mad rush getting my backpack ready meant i was at the show at about 2pm. I got my pass and headed straight for CGC and PSA to drop off some submissions to be graded before the end of the show. CGC said that they already had too many at show submissions at the bulk rate and tried to upwell me to a higher tier. I removed 18 items from my submission as a result. Funny thing is when they processed them, I've only been charged the bulk submission rate. So who knows. If you ask me, they shouldn't take more orders than they can support.

After that, I tried to get my bearings and made some initial progress on a few things including a 1952 Star Cal Bob Lemon and a couple of scarce pennants. Its surprising how fast the hours go when there so many interesting things to see.

At about 530pm i left to get back to my hotel so I could get to the Post Collectors dinner hosted by whiteymet. Thanks Fred for organizing it. I really enjoyed meeting everyone. Some great people with amazing collections. Looking forward to reading Dave Worley's new book. It was great talking with him about it and his encyclopedic knowledge of post/jello cards.

After a few hours, I left to go back to my hotel, sort out the chaos that I left in the room and update my checklists for the few purchases that I made during the day. Jetlag is tough but on a positive side, I means that I was up at 530am this morning and in line for early access to the show at 730am. I'll be one of the 1st 10 people through the doors today and I get to catch up on Net54 while I wait.

I love your 56/57 Topps felt! You just don't see those that often. I have a set of 58's and I keep them with my 58 set. I guess I'll have to work on 2 sets for my 56 and 57 sets! Picture of my 58s attached.

Very coo! Vendor had probably 6 or 7 other teams at his table.
