How was the 2025 Detroit Sports Spectacular ? Any comments from dealers and /or collectors ? Any vintage , non-sports or all modern etc ? I know they had a great auto lineup.

Wow missed it. Metro Detroit has historically had strong showing for collectors. I am not able to sign up for email alerts through their website.

I went on Saturday. I have been attending shows in Michigan for five years now as a collector, and I can confidently say this was the best show that has occurred in the state within that time frame. They had a great selection of vintage cards, as well as a good number of dealers who also set up at Strongsville and the National. I would recommend attending it if you're within a reasonable driving distance.

Hey guys -

I set up at the show and noticed several things:

1) Great crowds - mostly due to high end Detroit pro stars signing but also creating traffic on the floor, many of them spending with table dealers. Lots of old school card collectors

2) Slow creep of non-traditional vintage dealers into the table mix, with shiny cards, card display products, gimmicks and clothes being offered

3) Continued strong demand for Vintage. I sold most of the graded stuff that I took, though I was disappointed that there were not a lot of 50's/'60's set builders that found me. I was ready for them but they maybe just weren't out there.

4) Great overall buzz and a reminder of the great strength of the Detroit market. Doesn't hurt that the Tigers, Lions and Pistons are all doing great these day either.

Hope this helps, Mike!

Chris

Thanks for the input. Maybe the National should come to Detroit ( a 4 major sport city). NFL Draft last year was crazy in Downtown Detroit.

What would you say the major focus was? Modern/Vintage? Unopened boxes? The Gibraltar shows (North & South) always seemed to have a strong following.

Honestly - It did not seem like there was a major focus. There were absolutely many "collecting groups" represented. What I did not see or hear, thankfully, were a bunch of 20 year olds standing around one guy's table screaming because he just cracked a SuperRefractor or whatever. I also had the sense that it was a "regional" show only because I didn't see collectors I know from far flung areas, even though many out of state dealers seemed to be there. Maybe half of the attendees were wearing Tigers, Lions, MSU or UM hoodies! My last observation is that there are a lot of "VCP buyers" out there now - they wouldn't give a card a sniff if it wasn't at or below comps, quality and centering be damned.
