Default Memory Lane auctions - smart move

Got a good laugh today.

A package came from Memory Lane. I didn't remember winning anything recently from them. The package was a bubble mailer with something about the size of a padded slab.

I opened the bubble mailer and it was a package of microwave popcorn with information about their current auction (ending 11JAN25).

I hadn't checked out this auction out until today (after receiving the package).

Lots of CJs and over 20 Evers T206 (looks like a large back run).

As usual lots of fun stuff.

Anybody else get popcorn?

I'm sure the bumps in the bids more than paid for the popcorn and mailer.

I received a cup and an unopened pack of Donruss baseball cards. Not sure what year it is from. I always enjoy these treats from Memory Lane.

I got 1987 Topps in my cup. It went into my son's Christmas stocking, and he was happy to pull a Pete Rose.

Got the exact same package and I had the exact same thought - "oh, I must have won 1 or 2 slabs that I just forgot about!"

I had already put all my max bids into what is an exception auction (budget in the holidays is always a little tighter, so I'm already out!), but the popcorn absolutely achieved a positive goal for me. I gave it to my partner and said "see - you tell me that collecting cards is worthless. Now, you've got a bag of popcorn!" and she loved it.

Great catalogue, funny and thoughtful mailers. I know there are very real reasons that Memory Lane needs to make up for sins of the past, but I do appreciate the thought and effort. Its also a really good way to play the long game for eventual potential consignors, as its gotten this sub talking again about a great slate of auction items in a novel way.

Wut? If ML needs to atone for sins, and I won't speculate about what you are talking about here, why on earth would sending people a bag of popcorn or a junk wax pack atone for them? Are people that manipulable? I doubt it.

I did the exact same thing!
My wife is using the cup for her morning tea and my son got the 87 Topps pack in his Christmas stocking.
