Celtics Picture Packs

The Celtics picture packs started being issued during the 1955-56 season. There were photos distributed during the 1954-55 season, but they were not issued like the picture pack sets were. So, it is possible to find a random Bob Cousy, Bill Sharman, Fred Scolari, and Frank Ramsey (did not play during the 1955-56 season so he does not appear in the 1955-56 set). These have smaller dimensions than the picture pack photos. The 1955-56 set consisted of 10 photos:

Bob Cousy
Dick Hemric
Jim Loscutoff
Ed Macauley
Red Morrison
Jack Nichols
Togo Palazzi
Arnie Risen
Bill Sharman

The 1956-57 had at least 11 players (not sure about Togo Palazzi appearing). The 1956-57 consisted of:

Bob Cousy
Tommy Heinsohn
Dick Hemric
Jim Loscutoff
Jack Nichols
Andy Phillip
Frank Ramsey
Arnie Risen
Bill Russell
Bill Sharman
Lou Tsioropoulos

The 1957-58 had 11 players and is unique due to having a bluish tint on the photographs. None of the other picture pack years look like the 1957-58, so they are easy to date.

The 1957-58 set consisted of:

Bob Cousy
Tommy Heinsohn
Sam Jones
Jim Loscutoff
Jack Nichols
Andy Phillip
Frank Ramsey
Arnie Risen
Bill Russell
Bill Sharman
Lou Tsioropoulos

Adam, the ones stamped that way for the Celtics have been getting the type 1 designation. So that is a great Cousy.

Due to the width and length of the 55-56 and 56-57 being pretty much equivalent, not sure how anyone can tell the difference between Cousy, Hemric, Loscutoff, Nichols, Risen and Sharman as the photos are same. All the other players are unique to 55-56 or 56-57.

Sounds good to me. One of these days I will send in a package of photos for PSA to slab away.

The photos are the left are from 55-56 and the ones on the right are the ones from 56-57. Dimensions and images are the same. I had previously measured my 55-56 and 56-57 Cousy pictures and got 1/8" of difference.

I just sold my 55-56 photo pack set earlier this year. I definitely couldn’t see much of a difference from the 56-57. Thanks for the awesome comparison of the issues!

Anyone aware of any Chuck Cooper individual items?

In terms of Team issued items? He had a 51-52 (I believe that is the correct year) Team issued photograph. There is also a Team issued postcard that has the same image. Both items have the image of the type 1 Cooper photo that Love of the Game sold last auction. Other than that, there are a couple individual Cooper Celtics program covers and on the Celtics Booster's club magazine from 12/19/53.
