Debuting my page on 1978 Topps, joining 1979 and 1980.
Always interested in hearing feedback - particular whether there is any other aspects to these sets which could be highlighted. About the only thing I'm not providing right now is a checklist, which can best be found elsewhere. https://mrpekrul.wixsite.com/narcissism/1978 |

Love it! My first set as well. Didn’t know about the DP concept at the time but I sure did notice how many more Warren Brusstar cards I seemed to get vs most other players. Ah, and I did play PLAY BALL! Here is a fun article I wrote as a tribute to the game. https://sabrbaseballcards.blog/2019/...978-topps-set/

Great info on the '78 set. Man, I wish I could go back and ride my bike once more to the local general store and see a box of those on the counter at $0.20 per pack and carry a bunch home in a paper bag. Somewhere I've got an empty wax box, though it is in rough shape.
One other note one the rookie cards is that two time MVP Dale Murphy makes his second appearance (first being in 1977) on the Rookie Catchers card, sharing it with Lance Parrish. Thanks for publishing this.

What a friend and I would do is sort the cards by team, them randomly 'draft' 13 teams each. Then, we'd do a couple hours of 'trading' - we had no idea what we were doing so it'd go something like this - the Chicago White Sox trade John Verhoeven, Jorge Orta and Don Kirkwood to the Montreal Expos for Stan Bahnsen, Steve Rogers and Pete Mackanin. And then we'd exchange the cards. When we did that for a while, we would one of our electronic baseball games - bigger than handhelds like Electronic Quarterback, but not too much so. We'd play a game using the cards and the machine (the machine was meant to just be two people playing each other, but instead of Dave and Mark, it'd be the Mariners against the Red Sox or something. We had grand designs on playing a full season, but we never made it more than a few games I don't think. |

I have the same game, slightly different though. Still works well. Used to play with my brother. I now play it with my grandson. Mike

Great page Dewey.
Dynamite magazine put Topps cards in it's publications numerous times in the 70s and I think 80s. For some reason Bob Lemke listed several of them ( not all) in the pre 1980 Topps listings in the Standard Catalog. I set out to find each panel he listed in the Catalog. Still missing one from 1979 |

Thanks! My research (combination eBay and a Dynamite Magazine site) says they included them from 1975-1984 inclusive. I recall them being the the SC, but the one that started me down this path (1978, Porter/Cooper/Perez/Oliver) was never listed. |

Neat! Did you notice that on the sales sheet for the rack packs, the box that is depicted at the bottom in the graphic is actually one of the types of boxes used for 1974-1976 racks, and not the 1977 version that was used in 77-79?
Just kinda funny. kevin |
