I was looking at cards on the PSA registry and a huge amount from this year are very clean with no stains. Were these cards "cleaned" or were there some that did not get stained?
Thanks |

Not that the 14's without stains are suspect, but I've always preferred the 14's with stains, gives them character. I think it would be hard to clean these cards, they are thin and fragile, but I'm no expert at cleaning. - Last edited by Casey2296; 04-15-2024 at 08:16 PM. |

If I collected 1914 CJs I wouldn't touch them without stains. They show the history so much more.

I have a 1914 without stains (and some borders), although this behatted man later had his reputation stained and further shredded due to his tightwad-iness.

Unstained CJs remind me of Michael Jackson's claim of near full-body vitiligo.

Stains are part of the history, which I accept and like. Maybe look at the link from yesterday on Kurt’s Card Care. I turned off the Kurt’s Card Care after a bit as not to my liking. My radar is up on perfect looking Vintage cards. I do know near perfect vintage is possible from a find in the 1980’s from someone’s safe with incredible CJ’s that a dealer in the panhandle of WV obtained. Just not what I would consider what we mostly see. Keeping an open mind and a keen eye is key.

I started a thread about this a while back. I like my 14 CJs stained. It’s part of what makes them so special. Amazing set, best stained.
Shameless plug- my entire 1914 CJ set (stains and all) is being broken up and sold in the current memory lane auction. |

A Cracker Jack card without stains is almost blasphemy. It may sound crazy, but since Im not in it for the money, if I had a choice between a near mint CJ with zero stains and a mid to low grade with stains, Id choose the latter any day of the week. Its a huge part of what makes them so special.

![]() Lots of '14s in auction right now but they usually go for a bid more than I want to pay LOL...most of them aren't super rare, just expensive (for guys on budgets) .
