Default Do Dealers Put Airtags In Their Cases?

I tried to ask this question in another thread but folks seem to have other interests there. Anyway...I'm wondering if any of the dealers on here hide an Apple airtag in their storage cases/boxes/luggage. If you lose some inventory to a smash and grab or someone runs off with an entire case (à la Dallas) then you could open the phone app, show it to the cops, and they could track it down pretty quickly.
It wouldn't work for a single card. And if you didn't realize the theft quickly enough then the cards could be removed and the case/box/luggage dumped somewhere. Airtags cost ~$20 each and they are pretty small. Seems like a good investment relative to the price of your inventory. But, I'm not a dealer so wanted to see if that's common or not.

Air tags and other like type devices now have anti stalking software so all phones can get notified of an air tag that doesnt belong being near them/following them.

Pretty much neutralizes it's anti theft abilities if a thief is savvy.

You always have to assume that scammers read these message boards, so they are probably already wise to the Airtags.

Another element to keep in mind is that AirTags only register their location when an iPhone gets close enough to them to be in Bluetooth range. They also seem to need to sustain that range for a bit. So if the AirTag is in a remote area, or is maybe on a freeway without a lot of traffic sitting around it, it might not get picked up.

From personal experience, I was having a car delivered to me earlier this year. I dropped an AirTag into the car just so I could watch its progress. It was en route for about 3 days. The AirTag only registered a couple of times per day, and then at night when the vehicle stopped in a metro area at a motel for the night. So the ability to pinpoint precisely where it is at any given moment can be limited.

You would need a GPS tracker that doesn’t alert nearby phones…

Sounds like a business opportunity, which means there is almost a 100% chance it already exists (or some kind of work around).

I thought about using air tags for my keys or my dogs, but never did it.

I’ve been a global nomad for 25+ years. Started using AirTags when they first game out. Tracks my luggage and anything else I have one in. Nobody gets alerted to it and I’m not alerted to anyone else’s Airtag
