No place else to post so thought I would post here - a dealer on eBay had 5 Baseball Magazines for sale at $29.99 each with about $14.00 postage. I asked him if he combined postage and got a positive reply. I put them in my "Watch" section and forgot about them. By the time I went back it said the seller re-listed them. So I went back to place a bid so I wouldn't forget them again. His re-listed price was now $50.00 with about $14.00 postage. I guess since he thought I was interested but didn't bid he would up the price to give an impression they were "rare". Maybe not but I just wonder.

I see that a lot. Something doesn't sell and the seller jacks up the price. Makes no sense to me, but that's eBay.

Seller did the same to me with a DiMaggio. Listing ended and he jacked up the price almost $1k.

A similar thing happened to me a year ago. Can't even recall the card, I
asked the seller a question about it and he replied. The card ended- a true 7 day auction that didn't get a single bidder. He relisted and, rather than restart at a more realistic price/try to sell it, he increased the price. As a buyer who uses that venue less and less, my single biggest complaint is that ebay sellers often (not always!) come to the convenient conclusion that basic business concepts don't apply to them. For example, this very issue. Also, not accepting returns, insisting the buyer has to pay for extra insurance/signature for the "protection" of the seller (?!?!), slow delivery, claiming ignorance about the product they are selling ("I'm not comfortable answering questions about the card, I don't know much about it"). They basically beg people not to do business with them. Lots of these clowns abandon basic concepts associated with good service, and have the nerve to balk when you question it. Gross. Trent King |

I know it sounds counterproductive but the tactic has some legitimacy. If you know several people are watching an item and no one bids, you relist a bit higher hoping that this will get a fire under their butts. "Oh no it will keep going up I better buy it".
