About publishing date of 1942 Editorial Bruguera #12 Babe Ruth card
After the Spanish Civil War, in April 1939, everything was in short supply in Spain. At the end of 1939, the Barcelona publishing house "El gato Negro" began to publish a series of sets under the name "Cromos Cultura". These sets were kept in different albums that followed a consecutive numbering: album #1, album #2, ... In the album number 5 is where we find the series "Figuras Deportivas de Fama Mundial"("World Famous Sports Figures"). A series with 12 cards, where it appears #12: Babe Ruth. Although in PSA and in the hobby 1942 is assigned as the publication date of the Babe Ruth card, the reality is that this card was published several times and with a small variant. There is a version, the rarest to see, with a kind of ink stain on the right side of the card. It was surely the first version of it, an error that was later corrected. The Cromos Cultura albums were reissued under the new publisher heir to "El Gato Negro", "Editorial Bruguera", and were also during the period 1940-1942, that the albums appeared with two different types of covers (brown and full color). The most modern albums in their numbering doesn't correspond with the albums published in brown format. All of this indicates that Babe Ruth's card must have begun to be published in 1940 with "El Gato Negro" in a first version with an error, fastly corrected, and then they continued to be published until 1942 at the latest, when Bruguera stopped editing the collection.
